Premier League Best Bets: May 20th

We’re back for what will be the final edition of the Premier League best bets this season. It’s been a profitable season thus far with a 5.6% ROI from 760 stakes wagered across 106 separate tips. That equates to +42.57 units for my in-match betting in the Premier League. Let’s hope we can round the season off in style with another profitable week.

Tottenham vs Brentford Preview

Saturday, 20th May, 12:30 (UK)

Tottenham host Brentford with a European spot to secure. It hadn’t been in doubt for much of the season defeat last week means that Spurs have dropped out of the top 6 for the first time in the campaign. Any more dropped points and they open the door for Aston Villa – or perhaps even Brentford – to leapfrog them and take 7th spot and a place in the Europa Conference League.

But Tottenham have been in free fall these last few months. They’ve won just one of their last six Premier League matches. That win was also their only clean sheet since beating Chelsea in February.

Brentford have found some late-season form with three wins from four. The Bees have tightened up defensively, conceding just three times in their last five games despite facing Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa. They’ll feel confident going into this one but it’s not a feeling the bookmakers share.

Tottenham vs Brentford Best Bet

The Bees are the outsiders here with the Asian handicap line set at Tottenham -0.5. The bookies are expecting the hosts to win but not by much. That feels far too generous to this Tottenham team. This is a club in turmoil led by a third different manager in two months. The Bees look good value to get something from this match

Fulham vs Crystal Palace Preview

Saturday, 20th May, 15:00 (UK)

Of all the 10 fixtures in the Premier League this weekend, this match is probably the least important. Neither Fulham nor Crystal Palace have anything to play for. The Cottagers’ place in the top half is secured. A fine return on their return to the top tier of the game in England. Roy Hodgson’s Palace reunion has been a triumphant success with survival locked in but a top-half finish well out of reach.

Still, it’s a London Derby with points up for grabs. The Cottagers will want to go out in style in front of their home supporters after what has been a successful season. A win would be their first domestic double over Crystal Palace in the top flight after winning the reverse fixture back in December.

But Palace are a side in form. Only Liverpool and Manchester City have taken more points from their last eight matches than Crystal Palace have. A lot of that is down to the form of Eberechi Eze. The young midfielder has reached another level in recent weeks with six goals in eight appearances. He’s got ten for the season but they’ve been responsible for a total of 11 points.

Fulham vs Crystal Palace Best Bet

It’s a difficult match to call. I’d initially marked down Yes on Both Teams to Score as a likely bet but the odds are a little short. Instead, I’m going for something out of the ordinary.

The correct score market is one of the worst markets to bet on. The bookmaker margins are high and there are often far too many variables in a scoreline to make it worthwhile. I would not bet on this market over the long term but seeing as it’s the final matchday of the season, let’s go for a low-stakes punt.

BTTS is likely but the goal line is set at just 2.5 by the bookies. They’re expecting a low-scoring match with the odd goal separating it. Resident expert BETSiE has the goal line lower at around 2.0 with both sides at around a goal apiece.

With little on the line for either side, there’s not much incentive to go out and attack. Palace have been in good form but will likely be without key man Wilfried Zaha for this one. Breaking down goals scored into increments of 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4+, Palace have conceded exactly once on 17 separate occasions this season. No other Premier League side has scored or conceded more goals in a single increment than that this season. If that happens again, we’re already halfway there.

Wolves vs Everton Preview

Saturday, 20th May, 15:00 (UK)

This is one of several fixtures this weekend that matters a great deal more to one side than the other. Wolves’ Premier League safety is secured and they’ll most likely finish anywhere between 13th and 14th. A decent turnaround considering the club’s position when Julen Lopetegui took charge midway through the campaign.

For Everton, this is about Premier League survival. They’re a point clear of the drop zone with a home match against Bournemouth on the final day. The Toffees are in a good position to retain their place in the Premier League and could do it with a win here. They’ll take little confidence from their comparatively poor record against Wolves. Everton have lost each of their last three against them including a 2-1 defeat at Goodison Park back in December. It may be tough.

Wolves vs Everton Best Bet

Premier League survival is in the hands of Sean Dyche’s men but it’s hard to back them to get the job done. This is a Toffees side that has won just one of its last nine Premier League matches. Admittedly, that was a 5-1 victory away at Brighton but that will go down as one of this season’s greatest anomalies.

Instead of backing a winner, I’m looking at the Both Teams to Score market. No on BTTS is a personal favourite bet and often provides plenty of value with most people betting on what they want to see, goals and shifting the market.

Both teams have scored in just 36% of Wolves’ matches this season. That’s the lowest figure in the Premier League. They face Everton who have failed to score in 60% of their away league games in 2023. We don’t need a 0-0 but if either side fails to score then this bet wins.

  • Selection: No on Both Teams to Score (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.05 (BetVictor)
  • Stakes: 6/10
