Palmeiras vs Internacional Prediction 1: Bank on the champions at home

There weren’t too many shocks in the first round of the Brasileirão, although Internacional do have Fernando to thank for that. Despite having fallen behind in the 70th minute at home, Coudet’s side fought back and the defender’s 83rd minute header helped them to secure their first three points of the campaign.

Plenty is expected of Internacional this campaign after a busy spending spree in the off-season, and the win was very much needed after a bitterly disappointing midweek 0-0 draw with Bolivian outfit Tomayapo in the Sudamericana.

Palmeiras made it three wins on the bounce after securing a 1-0 away victory against Brasileirão new boys Vitória. It wasn’t the prettiest game, but Abel Ferreira’s side defended resolutely throughout and were rarely troubled throughout.

They were more impressive midweek in a 3-1 win over Liverpool in the Copa Libertadores, and at home is where we know the champions can thrive.

Palmeiras hasn’t lost at home in 17 matches, stretching back to November 2023. Out of those 17 matches, Verdão has won 15 of them. 

With the likes of Real Madrid-bound Endrick, the highly rated Estêvão and goal scoring prowess of Flaco Lopez in attack, the hosts should be capable of beating a team transitioning plenty of new faces.

Palmeiras vs Internacional Prediction 2: Defences to be stretched

Although not many leave Allianz Parque with a positive result, there’s evidence to suggest Internacional can breach Palmeiras’ defence in round two.

Palmeiras may have won their state cup before the Brasileirão kicked off, but goals conceded at home vs Corinthians, Mirassol and Ponte Preta limited their clean sheets. 

The reigning champions were expected to brush aside Uruguayan outfit Liverpool comfortably in the Libertadores, and despite running out 3-1 winners, fell behind within three minutes when they failed to react quickly enough to a set piece.

Looking at the visitors recent results, they have fired a few blanks which may appear alarming. However, a draw away to Argentina’s Belgrano in the Sudamericana was a strong result, and although they failed to deliver vs Tomayapo in round two, it appeared to be “one of those nights”. 

With 33 shots and 12 corners, this match wouldn’t finish 0-0 if it was to be replayed another 100 times.

It didn’t knock their confidence, and two second half goals vs Bahia, who recruited well themselves in the off-season, shows signs they are capable in front of goal.

Internacional has only scored in two of their last five visits to Allianz Parque, but there’s higher expectations this season and if they are to achieve them, they need to go toe-to-toe with the best in the league.

Priced at evens for both sides to get on the board, it’s very much worth chancing at this stage of the competition.

Palmeiras vs Internacional Prediction 3: Fast-paced first half

The champions kickstarted their title defence with a win and now return to their home ground in round two where the atmosphere can be one of the best in the league.

Not only is it an intimidating ground, but Palmerias’ attacking youngsters mentioned above are enough to be concerned about on their own, let alone heading to arguably the most difficult fixture on the calendar.

Despite this, Internacional can look to take advantage of any sloppy mistakes from the hosts. In their last five matches, Palmeiras has either scored or conceded in four of those. There’s been a lack of consistency as to whether they have been the ones to start strong or it’s their opponents, which opens the door for Internacional.

As mentioned, Liverpool took an unexpected lead in the Libertadores at Allianz Parque, while San Lorenzo did the same in round one of that particular competition.

However, Palmeiras showed their capabilities with an early strike vs Vitoria on Sunday evening, and no doubt Fereira will demand more of the same back in front of their own fans.

With plenty of attacking talent on show, for both sides, this looks to be one of the more entertaining matches in round two. An early goal can land us a winner and set the tone.

Palmeiras vs Internacional Team News and Possible Lineups: Familiar faces to return to the starting XI

Abel Fereira chose to rotate slightly for their opening match vs Vitoria, and it paid off securing the 1-0 win. With fixtures coming thick and fast, it’s always a balancing act in the Brasileirão to get it right.

Internacional will be seen as one of the stronger teams in the league, and it’s likely we’ll see a slight shift in the midfield. Gabriel Menino and Richard Rios will perhaps be those sacrificed, and Ze Rafael and Anibal Moreno will return to the heart of the midfield.

There’s no reason why Endrick and Estevao will lose their places, but the latter is only 16, and may come off the bench in the second half.
