The Italians have maintained the expectations and qualified, for the second season in a row, to the Conference League final. 

Since the beginning of the campaign, Vincenzo Italiano’s men have been considered among the favorites to lift the trophy and have reached the final act of the competition on the back of 13 positive results.  

Fiorentina have only lost one Conference League game this season (the very first one, in Wien, 1-0) and are the top scorers with 27 goals, having drawn a blank on just two occasions. 

Last season’s experience, when La Viola were defeated in the final by Jarrod Bowen’s last minute goal, will certainly be very important for Fiorentina who might, perhaps, choose a more cautious approach than twelve months ago, especially if the match is tied in the last minutes of regular time. 

But Fiorentina, who also have the best-attacking numbers in the competition (they’re top for both attempts, 251, and shots on target, 68), certainly won’t go against their principle because of fear of losing again. 

Lately, the visitors have scored with more ease, scored 22 goals in the last ten games in all competitions, and have plenty of ammunition to hurt the Greeks.

Olympiacos vs Fiorentina Prediction 2: Mendilibar has done it again

Olympiacos have been the biggest revelation of this European campaign. 

After a poor start of the season, which culminated with the elimination from the Europa League (due also to a resounding 5-0 defeat against Freiburg) and losses to PAOK, Lamia and AEK, the club brought in the experienced José Luis Mendilibar.

The 63-year-old Basque, who was in charge of Sevilla last season when the Andalusians won the Europa League, quickly managed to steady the ship and collected some important results. 

Under their third manager of the season, Olympiacos won the first six games before losing 4-1, at home, against Maccabi Tel-Aviv. What looked like the end of their European dream turned out to be the prologue for a historic comeback. 

In fact, not only did Olympiacos win the return leg 6-1 after extra time, but since April, they’ve knocked out Fenerbahce (on penalties) and, most remarkably, Aston Villa, who were the overwhelming favourites for the final victory.

After having won 22 of the past 26 Greek titles, including three in a row between 2019 and 2022, this season’s poor results, especially at the beginning, meant that the Thrylos have now failed to conquer their league for two consecutive seasons. 

However, a success in Europe’s third club competitions, and on home soil (albeit at AEK’s stadium), will more than compensate for the recent domestic struggles. 

Olympiacos have lost only two of their last 12 games in all competitions and are the seventh best scorers (18 goals) in the Conference League, despite having played only eight games. 

This season, they’ve only kept four clean sheets in their 18 European games, and seven of their last 11 games, in all competitions, have ended with both teams on the scoresheet.

Olympiacos vs Fiorentina Prediction 3: Athens’ redemption for the ‘Cockerel’

In the semi-final the hosts were excellent at exploiting Aston Villa’s high line and have three players such as Ayoub El Kaabi, the competition’s top goalscorer (10 goals), as well as Daniel Podence (15 goals and 10 assists) and Kostas Fourtunis (28 goals contributions), in very good form. 

But both teams can get goals from different sources, in fact each of them has found the net with 12 different players in Europe this season, including a couple of defenders like Luca Ranieri (three goals) or Rodinei and Restos. 

Since joining from Roma in January, Euro 2021 champion Andrea Belotti has only missed two games but only scored twice (against Frosinone and Club Bruges) for La Viola. 

However, his importance for Fiorentina goes beyond these numbers. 

In fact Bellotti’s presence and experience has been key to creating spaces for the runs of midfielders and the partnership with Nicolas Beltran (four goals in the competition for the Argentine) has worked well. 

Last season in the Europa League final Belotti, whose nickname is the ‘Cockerel’ because of the iconic celebration, was denied by a miraculous save from Sevilla’s goalkeeper Bounou the goal that would have won Roma the trophy.

If you believe in karma, that’s one more reason to back him. However surely Belotti will get chances against a not watertight defense and, after all, he’s also due a goal.

Olympiacos vs Fiorentina Team News and Possible Lineups: both sides at full strength

Doron Leidner is Olympiacos’ only confirmed absentee, whereas Fiorentina are without Riccardo Sottil, who recently suffered a shoulder injury. Olympiacos will play with the same XI that beat Aston Villa 2-0. Former Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic (35 goals in 116 appearances with La Viola) will start on the bench, along with Andrè Horta. 

Vincenzo Italiano made a big turnover in the last game in Cagliari, in which Fiorentina won 3-2 in stoppage time. 

Mandragora, Gonzalez, Beltran, Kouame and Belotti should all return to the starting XI. Dodô will be confirmed at right back, with Kayode dropping to the bench.
