Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal Tip 1: Hosts to halt title contenders

England, Premier League, Tuesday, January 30th, 19:30 (UK)

It’s just one defeat in five for Nuno Santo since his appointment, including wins against Newcastle and Manchester United. Subpar performances in the FA Cup vs Blackpool and Brentford back in the Premier League followed, but there’s been plenty more to like in front of goal.

However, Forest have shown plenty of attacking intent since the Portuguese head coach came in, and Arsenal will need to be wary of Chris Wood, who’s scored eight Premier League goals this campaign.

In behind the New Zealand striker, Nicolas Dominguez, Morgan Gibbs-White and Danilo will help Forest get into attacking positions, and look to strike on the counter – something we witnessed in their 1-0 victory last season.

Although third, Arsenal heads into this midweek clash having won just once on the road in their last five. Their sole victory came in the 97th minute thanks to Declan Rice, after conceding three against Luton.

Forest has only lost by two goals or more once this season, which came against Spurs, and with Arsenal having lost on their last three visits to the City Ground, expect Arteta’s side to struggle in the hostile environment once more.

  • Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal Tip 1: Forest +1.5 Asian Handicap
  • Best Odds: 1.70

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal Tip 2: Goals to flow on Trentside

Despite Forest’s improvement in front of goal, they haven’t been able to address their defensive issues. In fact, you have to go back 13 matches for their last clean sheet, which came against Aston Villa.

With both Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachomdimos struggling in their new environment, Forest will continue to be vulnerable near the relegation zone if their goalkeeper situation doesn’t improve.
The hosts have proven incapable of defending set pieces and crosses in recent fixtures, and Arsenal will look to be the next team to punish them on Tuesday evening.

Brentford punished Forest from two set pieces in their recent 3-2 victory, while Blackpool’s crosses caused chaos to the defence in the FA Cup.

With key absences and injuries, Santo’s hands are tied when it comes to his team selection at present, which isn’t helping him improve on the current defensive situation.

The Gunners have scored 15 goals on the road this campaign, and despite finding life challenging away from the Emirates of late, Forest seems incapable of making life easy for themselves.

With it priced rather generously around the evens mark, goals are almost guaranteed at the City Ground based on recent fixtures.

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal Tip 3: A second half to savour

Under the new head coach, the handbrake appears to be taken off after 45 minutes. Forest were held at 0-0 against Man United before three goals followed in the second half.

The same happened against Brentford when the match was finely poised at 1-1 at the break.

As the game grows, Forest either becomes brave enough and believes they are capable of carving through opponents, or mistakes begin to trickle into their game – most prominently in defence.

The same can’t be said for Arsenal of late, although four goals in the second half against Luton tells us when the pace of the game increases, they, too, can become quite chaotic.

You don’t need me to tell you the pace both sides possess as well. Anthony Elanga and Morgan Gibbs-White for the hosts, while Bukayo Saka and Martinelli will look to hurt Forest on the break whenever they can.

Throw in the atmosphere Forest fans will bring to the occasion. This has become one of the standout fixtures since their return to the Premier League.

Expect a sensible approach from both sides in the opening 45; who won’t want an uphill battle for different reasons heading into the second half? However, with the way in which both sides are currently operating, there will no doubt be plenty of fireworks, drama and mistakes in the second half after a fairly switched-on opening 45.

  • Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal Tip 3: Most Goals Second Half
  • Best Odds: 2.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal Team News Preview: AFCON absences a concern for hosts

Once again, the new Forest boss will have to manage the players he has at his disposal while others have yet to return.

Ola Aina, Willy Boly, Serge Aurier, Moussa Niakhate and Ibrahim Sangare are all on international duty, whilst star striker Taiwo Awoniyi is still not fit enough to return to the squad.

Arsenal is in far greater nick, who are only missing Mohamed Elneny and Takehiro Tomiyasu to the AFCON and Asian Cup, respectively.
