Nice vs Monaco Tip 1: Stick with the tried and tested Nice under
France, Ligue 1, Sunday 11th February, 19:45 (UK)
The number of Under 2.5 goal matches Nice has been involved in this season has been staggering. A huge 17 out of 20 of their Ligue 1 fixtures have ended this way, but it’s no fluke because Nice are so strong defensively. They have the best defensive record in Ligue 1 and only conceded two goals at home all season! Les Aiglons averages the second-fewest shots against per match (10.0) and has the best xGA of 17.45.
The hosts have a legitimately strong backline and a goalkeeper in Marcin Bulka, who’s been in great form this season. He saved two penalties in the reverse fixture and has been a fantastic last line of defence. Monaco will hope this match becomes more open, and they would prefer a shootout, but Nice won’t let this happen, and they will constantly restrict their opponents.
The soft underbelly of Monaco is likely to be exposed, and this type of game does not suit them at all. We have a complete clash of styles, but in this instance, I think Nice’s defensive and more tactical style will become prevalent. Under 2.5 goals looks like a big price at 1.80 when you consider their past history this season. We can only get these odds because Monaco have a reputation for scoring goals.
- Nice vs Monaco Tip 1: Under 2.5 Goals (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.80
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 10/10
Nice vs Monaco Tip 2: Brilliant home record difficult to ignore
Nice has been absolutely exceptional at home this season, with seven wins out of 10. Les Aiglons yet to suffer defeat at the Allianz Riviera. They have only conceded twice in front of their own fans, and one of those goals was on the opening night of the season way back in August. Nice have become very reliable at this venue and extremely difficult to beat. Francesco Farioli’s men are so strong defensively that the only real danger scoreline would appear to be 0-0.
This is a south coast local derby, so anything is possible. However, taking Nice on a -0.25 Asian Handicap would appear to make the most logical sense from a statistical perspective. Monaco can be inconsistent and ropey at times.
They possess the third-best away record in Ligue 1, but they are not a team that can be trusted on a regular basis. I went against them to good effect last week with the Le Havre +1 Asian Handicap, and once again, I’ll happily side with their opponents here. At worst, you’ve got to this would be a half loss based on how Nice have performed at home this season.
- Nice vs Monaco Tip 2: Nice -0.25 Asian Handicap (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.03
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 10/10
Nice vs Monaco Tip 3: Cagey match brings half time draw appeal
Nice have been drawing at halftime in 13 out of 20 matches this season and seven times out of 10 at home. They are involved in so many low-scoring matches that the first half, especially, tends to be extremely cagey and tight. Neither team will want to lose this match, and even Monaco will probably tread carefully to get out of the starting blocks.
There could be a lot of fouls throughout the whole match, but the first half could be especially stop-start, which only adds to my thoughts that this could be 0-0 at the interval.
I was toying between backing the halftime draw at juicy odds of 2.25 or under 1 Asian goal in the first half around the 1.80 mark. Ultimately, I think it’s best we have the 1-1 draw covered as a possibility, and the extra value backing the HT draw makes more sense.
The way things have been going in Nice fixtures, they will probably be drawing 0-0 at HT and then go on to claim a likely 1-0 or 2-0 victory. They do not push the boat out or over-commit before halftime, so I like the idea of this being all square at the interval.
- Nice vs Monaco Tip 3: Half Time Draw (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.25
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
