Netherlands vs Turkey Prediction 1: Both teams to find the net
Euro 2024, Quarter-finals, Saturday, July 6th, 17:00 (UK)
Despite not being one of the pre-tournament favourites, the Netherlands is in a good position to make a semi-final while being a slightly hit-and-miss in the tournament. They have apparent flaws on their side, one being that even though they have Virgil Van Dijk in their defence, they never seem too comfortable when the opposition gets at them with any type of pressure, as shown in Poland and particularly against Austria.
Since Vincenzo Montella’s appointment on September 21st last year, he has taken charge of 12 matches in all competitions, but he has only been able to keep a clean sheet in three of them.
Montellas’s side has seen both sides score in four of the last five, with the most recent being one of the games of the tournament, which ended in dramatic fashion with a world-class save of a 0.94 xG chance from Mert Gunok.
Koeman’s side in the group stage saw two out of three teams score and conceded a high volume of shots against France and Poland, so they are not this highly formidable side that you can’t exploit. The Dutch side have scored seven in four games, with Gakpo and Malen carrying a large portion of that. With threats all across the frontline, it would be a shock if they didn’t find the back of the net.

Netherlands vs Turkey Prediction 2: All the ingredients for a euro classic
In their win against Austria, Turkey showed another way to exploit teams in this tournament. Arda Gulers’ set-piece delivery was fantastic, resulting in one assist for the second goal. However, his ball for the open goal inside a minute caused chaos in the Austrian box. It was whipped in delightfully, and Demiral stuck it away after the pinball that ensued.
When Turkey is involved, you can almost guarantee goals. All four of their games this tournament have seen the overs line land with an average of 3.25 goals a game. Montella’s side has this trend, with eight of his 12 in charge of the national side, and I can see it continuing on Saturday evening.
The Netherlands are a side that produces goal-laden games with a tournament average of 2.75 a game. A key reason is that the front line is full of attacking talent and flair from Gakpo, Simon, Depay, and Malen. Gakpo has four goals and assists, and he’s crucial for this Dutch side. The assist leader for the team and the tournament, Xavi Simon, has three assists and averages two key passes a game. He is now a vital component to making this team tick.

Netherlands vs Turkey Prediction 3: Gakpo gunning for Golden Boot
Cody Gakpo had shown in previous international tournaments that he knew where the goal was with his three goals in five games in Qatar when the Dutch were knocked out by eventual champions Argentina on penalties. So it shouldn’t be a great shock that he’s again producing for his country on the big stage.
Gakpo has shown every game this Euros that he is made for playing off the left-hand side, a position he frequented for PSV but never used regularly by Klopp during his time at Liverpool.
It’s been another confirmation of how crucial Gakpo is to the attacking side of the Dutch game, as he’s been on the score sheet every time the team has. His impressive three goals in four have put him right amongst it for the Golden Boot race, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he went on to win it. In my outright selection, I fancied Gakpo to be the Dutch top scorer, and I can see him pulling ahead of Donyell Malen, who hit a quick double against the Romanians.
Gakpo, the star forward for Oranje, has been consistently averaging 2.8 shots per game in the Euros, with an impressive 1.8 shots on target. His role as a key component in the Dutch attacking strategy provides him with numerous opportunities to take shots, especially when cutting inside from the left onto his favoured right foot.
His three goals from 0.85xg are a significant overperformance. I’m confident that he will continue to capitalise on future opportunities, especially in what I anticipate to be a very open game against the Turkish, given their style of play. So, backing him at 2.75 seemed easy, given how many chances I think he could have over the 90 minutes.
- Netherlands vs Turkey Prediction 3: Cody Gakpo to Score Anytime (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.75
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 6/10

Netherlands vs Turkey Euro 2024 Team News and Possible Lineups: No issues for Koeman and Montella facing suspension headaches
Koeman has no suspensions or injuries to worry about for this quarter-final. Donyll Malen is expected to be back in the starting lineup after his double against Romania, meaning Steven Bergwijn will be dropped. The only other positions that had seen rotation look firmly secured with Dumfries back in for the Romania game after a poor performance from Lutsharel Geertruida in the final group game. Tijjani Reijnders has cemented himself since Joey Veerman was dragged off in the first half versus Austria.
Turkey is also waiting on UEFA, which said it will investigate the Demirals’ goal celebration against Austria. Ismail Yuksek and Orkun Kokcu are suspended for accumulating yellow cards after being booked in the last round. However, Montella does have some good news, as both Samet Akaydin and Haka Calhanoglu are back from suspension.
Netherlands possible starting lineup:
Verbruggen, Aké, van Dijk, de Vrij, Dumfries, Reijnders, Schouten, Gakpo, Simons, Malen, Depay
Turkey possible starting lineup:
Gunok; Muldur, Demiral, Bardacki, Kadioglu; Ayhan, Ozcan, Yimaz, Calhanoglu, Yildiz; Guler
Euro 2024 Match Stats: A long awaited semi-final for either side
- Netherlands not made it passed last eight since 2004
- Only ever made it to semifinals once which was in 2008
- Turkey are second behind Georgia in expected goals(xG) conceded at this Euros.
- Netherlands boast both the top scorer in Gakpo and the assist leader in Xavi Simons.
