After Mozambique’s unexpected, but deserved 2-2 draw with Egypt, there’s optimism within the camp they can topple an African giant within their group.
The Mambas weren’t expected to score, let alone twice. Egypt’s blushes were saved after a rash decision inside the box allowed Mo Salah to score a 96th-minute penalty. Plenty learned, but plenty to build on.
With Egypt underperforming, it’s safe to say Ghana have failed to step up in their place. After a disappointing loss to Cape Verde and throwing away a lead against Egypt, Mozambique can still feel confident they can secure a positive result and qualify as one of the best ranked teams in third place as a minimum.
Although Ghana scored two against Egypt, they only registered a single shot on target against Cape Verde, who are one of the lowest ranked teams in the competition. Their manager, Chris Hughton, is already feeling the heat from supporters and is under pressure to deliver a result.
Mozambique are at a big price for another upset. Having beaten Ghana as recently as 2023, they can look to replicate that result on Monday.

Mozambique vs Ghana Tip 2: Early goal could set the tone
With plenty at stake, we may see one of these two teams change their strategies to a more attacking approach in order to make sure they qualify.
Mozambique will certainly aim to be more attacking if they’ve kept an eye on Ghana’s defence. The Black Stars have conceded four in their two matches, and the occasion and chance for another underdog to rock the boat will pile the pressure on them.
Both teams have shown signs they are capable going forward, as the Mambas scored with their only two shots on target vs Egypt. However, defensively, they both leave a lot to be desired.
One of these two nations may look to strike early, gain an advantage and invite the other team to come onto them and strike on the counter. If Mozambique score first, we could be onto a winner.

Mozambique vs Ghana Tip 3: Mambas to break Black Stars’ backline

All the signs are there for another “upset” and the value definitely lies with the underdogs.

Mozambique vs Ghana Team News Preview: Pressure firmly on Hughton
Chris Hughton is certainly feeling the heat to deliver after dropping points against both Cape Verde and Egypt. Expectations were high within Ghana’s fanbase before the tournament kicked off. Not qualifying out of their group, which consisted of two much lower ranked teams will ultimately cost him his job.
However, despite his attacking options, his approach remains more cautious than it needs to be. He’s also a manager to pride himself on his team setting up well defensively, but after conceding four in two matches, it’s been anything but solid.
Mozambique will know this is a big opportunity, but it’s also a free hit for them. They’ve shown they can compete at this level, and head into their last group game with no fresh injury concerns to worry about. It’ll be a very interesting match from a neutral perspective, and one in which the underdog can come out on top.
