Marseille vs Strasbourg Tip 1: New Strasbourg approach could make them a threat

Patrick Vieira took a lot of criticism in the autumn from fans, pundits and bettors for the style he was implementing. Les Alsatians were extremely negative, and the former Crystal Palace boss preferred to play for low-scoring draws. It didn’t help that the attacking unit was misfiring as well. However, the evidence towards the end of 2023 showed that Vieira was willing to go for it more, with all of their last six league games opening up with both teams scoring.
Marseille have scored in all of their last eight games, and their attack force has looked more impressive recently. Their defence can be inconsistent, but Strasbourg can take heart from the fact that Ajax netted three times at Le Stade Velodrome towards the end of November and that struggling Lorient bagged a brace against them.
OM also failed to keep a clean sheet recently vs Clermont and Montpellier, and Strasbourg would argue they are better than both. BTTS – Yes is at 1.95 and looks like a big price if the positive version of the visitors shows up.

Marseille vs Strasbourg Tip 2: Marseille attack force will be difficult to resist
The reasoning is similar to the BTTS pick and relies on Strasbourg not approaching this game with significant caution. The reverse fixture was a pulsating 1-1 draw, which somehow ended Under 2.5 Goals but realistically deserved to have far more goals in it. If the game follows a similar pattern here, then there is a strong case to be made that at least three goals will be scored. Marseille have netted 12 times in their last five Ligue 1 games and should be primed to go again.
Strasbourg have had the joint fifth most over 2.5 goal games in Ligue 1 this season, which might be a surprising statistic. Their fixtures have averaged exactly 2.40 goals in each contest. They had a period where under was the obvious bet, but things have changed with a new mentality and approach from Vieira.
The likes of Emanuel Emegha, Kevin Gameiro and Moise Sahi Dion are all in good form. Both teams can contribute to this goal total, but Marseille alone would command the ability to net three times at home in a fixture like this. The odds of 1.80 look fine to take.

Marseille vs Strasbourg Tip 3: Awesome Aubameyang in fine form
Former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looked like a flop earlier this season but rebounded in a big way towards the back end of 2023. He scored seven goals in his last seven fixtures to round off the year and already hit the back of the net in the Coupe de France va Thionville last weekend.
It took some time for The Gabonese international to settle into life on the south coast, but he looks a far more confident and clinical striker now.
Aubameyang only played 22 minutes off the bench in the reverse fixture, but Strasbourg will now have to deal with him for the majority of this game. The visitors’ defence has only kept one clean sheet away from home all season, and that was facing Metz, who are really struggling.
Aubameyang will get chances and looks a hefty price at 2.50 to score at any time as the starting OM striker and round off this Marseille vs Strasbourg predictions preview. Only Kylian Mbappe and Akor Adams have racked up a higher individual xG in Ligue 1, so he is getting into some fantastic goal-scoring situations.

Marseille vs Strasbourg Team News Preview: African Nations Cup hitting Marseille hard
Marseille has an astonishing seven international players at the African Nations Cup. The most significant loss is central defender Chancel Mbemba, who has the second-most minutes of any OM player this season. Midfielders Amine Harit, Iliman Ndiaye and Azzedine Ounahi will also be missed, although they are less important.
Strasbourg don’t have anyone of significance at the AFCON but do have injury concerns with Thomas Delaine, Ismael Doukoure and Lebo Mothiba, who look set to be ruled out medium to long-term. Striker Emanuel Emegha missed last week’s French Cup tie but is more likely to have been rested as a precaution.
