Mallorca vs Girona Tip 1: Goals Flow Wherever Girona Go

Spain, La Liga, Sunday, March 3rd, 17:30 (UK)

Estadi Mallorca Son Moix is a tricky venue for visiting clubs. Only Villarreal, Betis and Sociedad have earned three points in the Balearic Islands. Javier Aguirre’s men have scored in eight of their previous 11 La Liga matches at this venue. I expect the home side to have some joy in attack against a Girona side that has managed just three shutouts in 13 away days.

Mallorca have earned 16 of their 24 points at home this term. Although they’re just six points clear of the drop, things can change instantly. Maintaining a good record here will be vital until the final day.

I think we all know about Girona’s current campaign. It’s been a tremendous journey for all involved. Things haven’t gone their way in recent weeks. A top-four finish is still well in their grasp. Michel’s men usually get themselves on the scoresheet wherever they play. They’ve scored in 21 of 25 matches, which includes 11 of 13 away.

The reverse fixture was a classic. Girona won 5-3 in September. The pair faced one another in the Copa Del Rey earlier this year. Mallorca got the better of Girona that day and won 3-2. Another exciting goal-heavy encounter would be brilliant.

Mallorca vs Girona Tip 2: Halftime Stalemate

There’s not much splitting these two clubs right now. Mallorca have been level in ten of their 13 home matches this term, an impressive statistic. The home side will be wary of Girona’s offensive prowess. They’ll be tight and compact from the off, which makes the proposed selection an appealing bet.

Girona will know that they’re in for a tough test. Results as of late haven’t been as good as they’d had hoped. They’ll give the hosts respect and may play with a cautious approach in the early stages. Girona found themselves 3-0 down at this stadium a few weeks ago. Six of their 13 away days have been level at the break.

Each of the previous four Mallorca matches ended all square after the opening 45 minutes. It’s an impressive winning streak. They aren’t worried about having the ball. Only four sides average less possession than Mallorca.

Only Barcelona, Real Madrid and Las Palmas have a better possession average than Girona. It’s clear how both sides will approach this encounter. A contest that will be dominated by the visitors when it comes to possession, whilst Mallorca will look to cause a threat from set pieces. Eight of their 23 goals this term have arrived from dead-ball situations. Only two clubs have more.

Mallorca vs Girona Tip 3: A Valuable Venezuelan

Mallorca is a predominantly defensive-minded team. It may take a long-range effort to find the breakthrough. Yangel Herrera isn’t a prolific scorer by any means. He isn’t afraid to unleash a shot. The Venezuelan has recorded 33 shots this term, that’s 2.07 per 90 on average. He had four strikes in the reverse meeting, where he found the back of the net.

Girona’s midfielder has played 45 minutes or more 17 times. Yangel has recorded at least one shot in 16 of those matches. He didn’t register a shot on the opening day of the season. Herrera has recorded multiple attempts in 11 appearances for his side in La Liga in 23/24.

The Venezuelan international is having the best season of his career. He played a part in 20 matches last campaign, in which he started 12. Herrera averaged 2.24 shots per 90 in 22/23. It’s a consistent average and an impressive one from a central midfielder. He’ll want to continue his good performances until the end of the season, given his side still has plenty to play for.

He’s priced at 5.50 to find the back of the net in this clash. It’s worth considering for a potential punt in a contest that could be won and lost by tiny margins or individual excellence.

Hopefully, Herrera wears his shooting boots on Sunday and manages to cover this line.

  • Mallorca vs Girona Tip 3: Yangel Herrera Over 1.5 Shots (TRACKED BET)

  • Stake: 2/10

Mallorca vs Girona Team News and Possible Lineups: Two Strong Squads

Mallorca have a massive Copa Del Rey in San Sebastián on Tuesday night. We don’t know if they get through the clash unscathed.

Pablo Maffeo is the only injury doubt at this current time. The Argentinian has been absent since January. It’ll be a boost if he was to make an appearance here.

Mallorca should expect to line up in their usual 5-3-2. They’re a tough side to crack, especially in front of the home fans.

The visitors will have more or less a fully fit squad. That’s if they avoid any injuries on Monday night against Rayo Vallecano.

Daley Blind is the only current doubt. He missed the defeat against Bilbao due to a leg injury.

Mallorca possible starting lineup:
Rajkovic; Gonzalez, Valjent, Nastasic, Copete, Costa, Rodriguez, Samu, Darder, Larin; Muriqi

Girona possible starting lineup:
Gazzaniga; Couto, Garcia, Juanpe, Gutierrez, Tsygankov, Martin, Garcia, Herrera, Savio; Dovbyk
