Maldini would be good Director of Football for Man Utd, remarks Silvestre
Manchester United made it five wins from their last six Premier League matches with a 3-0 win over Everton yesterday. The Red Devils currently sit sixth, six points off of Arsenal at the top.
The on-field results are improving for Erik ten Hag and he can expect some changes coming in at the executive level with new Man Utd owner Sim Jim Ratcliffe rumoured to be in favour of bringing in a Director of Football with AC Milan icon Paolo Maldini’s name doing the rounds.
We talked to ex United star and former Rennes Sporting Director, Mikael Silvestre, who gave his view on Maldini’s potential appointment and Sir Alex Ferguson being a potential advisor to Ratcliffe.

Paolo Maldini Has The Experience To Be Man Utd’s Sporting Director
Milan icon Maldini has been regarded as one of the finest defenders in football history. In addition to his storied playing career, the Italian has also had a fairly successful run as sporting director of the Rossoneri, winning the 2021-22 Serie A title.
It is for that reason that Silvestre says that Maldini would be a good choice for the role of Manchester United’s Sporting Director.
“Paolo Maldini has the experience and the knowledge to be good in this role. He could be a potential sporting director for Man United, because of his career and his connections and knowledge on the international level.”
“Under his watch the club won a Serie A title.”
“He has been in that role in Serie A for a big club for a while, so he definitely has the experience to be in that role.”
Sir Alex Ferguson Would Be The Best Advisor To Sir Jim Ratcliffe
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is known to be looking at Sir Alex Ferguson for advice when the former’s owner status fully materialises and Silvestre is fully in favour of that, saying that the pair should be meeting formally or informally.
Silvestre cites Ferguson’s experience as one of the main reasons why the decorated former manager would be a great advisor.
“Those meetings with Sir Alex should happen. Whether it’s official or unofficial.”
“Sir Alex has been following the team. He’s been going to every home game. He would have an acute understanding and opinion and he would be the best advisor for whoever comes and tries to rectify the ongoing situation.”
