Lyon vs Monaco Prediction 1: Lyon can bounce back from PSG defeat against tired Monaco
France, Ligue 1, Sunday 28th April, 20:00 (UK)
Lyon lost 1-4 away to PSG last weekend, which was an uncharacteristic result and performance. The champions-in-waiting simply outplayed them, and that game demonstrated that they still have a fair way to go in order to match a side of PSG’s calibre. However, we shouldn’t hold it against them too much. No other team in this division is anywhere near that level and Lyon probably shouldn’t be judged harshly. They have been in brilliant form since Pierre Sage took over the team, averaging 1.89 points per game during his tenure. Les Gones have won 11 of their last 16 Ligue 1 games and also reached the Coupe de France final.
Monaco looks like they are in the box seat to finish second in the table and should certainly be looking at a top-four berth as a minimum placement. At the time of writing, we don’t know the result of the crucial midweek match between Monaco and Lille which will have an impactful result in the table. It will be an intense clash and Monaco are not used to playing three games in a week this season.
One of the reasons they’ve done well is the lack of European football and getting knocked out of the French Cup early. Lyon can take advantage of some tired legs, and backing them on a 0,0 Asian handicap looks like a decent option. I don’t think Lyon will lose this game, and they’ll be eager to bounce back after last week’s disappointment.
- Lyon vs Monaco Prediction 1: Lyon 0,0 Asian Handicap (TRACKED BET)

Lyon vs Monaco Prediction 2: Open contest should lead to a barrage of goals
There was a period where the type of match that Lyon were involved in was hard to predict. They were fighting against relegation and Pierre Sage had to make them difficult to break down. But, we have seen, in recent weeks, that his ideal philosophy is to play positive tactics with an ambition to entertain the crowd. The last eight consecutive Lyon games have all contained at least two goals with six of those going over 2.5. The Asian goal line is set at 3.00 here and it looks like a line which can be attacked with the over in mind.
Monaco results can be a mixed bag in terms of over and under, but the general flow of their games is quite open. Their fixtures average 3.20 goals per game and along with PSG and Lorient have picked up 18 out of 29 games over 2.5 goals this season, which is the joint most of any side. That rate extends to 11 out of 15 road games where their defence has been less reliable. To be fair, they did obtain an excellent clean sheet at Brest last week when they won 2-0. But this will be their third game in the space of a week and there could be some tired legs out there.
Lyon are offering more of an offensive threat than Brest at the moment and it will be more challenging. We know that Monaco packs an impressive attacking punch of their own. They have scored the second most goals of any team in Ligue 1 (55) and backed it up with legit xG metrics of 53.18. This looks set to be an open contest in which both teams go for the win, so taking Over 3.00 Goals looks quite a safe play to receive at least a push.
- Lyon vs Monaco Prediction 2: Over 3 Asian Goals (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.93
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Lyon vs Monaco Prediction 3: Lacazette to continue strong form
With plenty of goals expected then it makes sense to look into the individual goalscorer markets to find some extra value. There’s a case to be made for several players in this fixture but one name, which stands out like a sore thumb is Lyon captain Alexandre Lacazette. After a poor first half of the season he has rebounded well and netted 18 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions. He failed to score against PSG last week but had previously been in great form, netting five goals in five games.
Lacazette can be backed at 2.37 to score anytime which looks a generous price considering he’s at home, in form and the goal line is set high between 3.00 and 3.25. This is a Monaco team that have conceded the fourth most away goals of any side in the division and the Lyon captain will not fear anything from this defence. He will get chances, as he always does. The fact that he’s on penalty-taking duty only reinforces the chances of this bet winning.
- Lyon vs Monaco Prediction 3: Alexandre Lacazette to Score Anytime (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.37
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 6/10

Lyon vs Monaco Team News and Possible Lineups: Monaco have to juggle midweek match
Lyon have no new issues to contend with and have quite a healthy squad right now. Monaco will be without defender Wilfried Singo and attacker Elise Ben Seghir in their midweek match against Lille due to a red card. They should return here as long as their bans are only one match. Thilo Kehrer will be back after completing a ban of his own. Caio Henrique and Aleksandr Golovin are injured for the remainder of the season.
Lyon possible starting lineup:
Lopes, Henrique, O’Brien, Caleta-Car, Maitland-Niles, Matic, Caqueret, Benrahma, Cherki, Nuamah, Lacazette
Monaco possible starting lineup:
Majecki, Salisu, Marzipan, Singo, Vanderson, Zakaria, Fofana, Diatta, Minamino, Akliouche, Balogun
