Lyon vs Brest Prediction 1: Brest to deflate away to Les Gones
France, Ligue 1, Sunday 12th April, 19:45 (UK)
Lyon are suddenly rolling in much better times. They were languishing inside the Ligue 1 relegation zone for nearly half the season but the hire of academy manager Pierre Sage as head coach has worked wonders. Les Gones have now won ten of their last 14 league games and Sage averages 1.94 points per game since taking charge. That sort of form over the course of the whole season would put them in the Champions League spots so we are clearly looking at a side much better than its current league position.
Brest have worked wonders this year and are remarkably still second in the table. They should go on from here to finish in the top four but the level of their performances have dropped recently. A fortunate 1-0 away win against struggling Lorient was followed up by a crazy 4-3 success last week at home to Metz. Brest controlled most of the match but had an alarming collapse to nearly drop points. If they are struggling to control the likes of Lorient & Metz then this will be a much tougher test.
Backing Lyon on a -0.25 Asian Handicap offers some security in case of a draw. Les Gones look massively overpriced considering their recent form and must be snapped up here.
- Lyon vs Brest Prediction 1: Lyon -0.25 Asian Handicap (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.93
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 10/10
Lyon vs Brest Prediction 2: Lyon attack force underrated
The hosts have scored at least two goals in 11 of their last 17 games in all competitions and look a decent price to net at least a brace here. Les Gones added to their armoury in the January transfer window by adding the likes of Gift Orban, Malick Fofana and Said Benhrama. There are a lot more options available to Pierre Sage and crucially he can call upon some strong bench options if required. Lyon have regularly come from behind in matches and that is partly due to their new acquisitions.
Only Nice have conceded fewer goals than Brest this season, but the underlying metrics tell a different story. Eric Roy’s men have overachieved their xG numbers by nearly ten goals and have been indebted to goalkeeper Marco Bizot who has made some excellent saves. Brest are starting to concede more chances. They were extremely fortunate to keep a clean sheet vs Lorient, and then Metz rocked up and scored three times against them on their own pitch. Lyon are very capable of dominating this fixture and scoring twice. The odds of 2.20 on this occurring feel too high considering their recent form, being at home and facing a more vulnerable backline than the league table might suggest.
- Lyon vs Brest Prediction 2: Lyon Over 1.5 Goals (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.20
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10
Lyon vs Brest Prediction 3: Lyon’s captain to keep hitting the back of the net
Lyon’s captain and top marksman, Alexandre Lacazette, has been in rich goalscoring form and has now reached 14 goals for the season in Ligue 1. That’s quite impressive when you consider the fact that this Lyon team was down in the depths of the table until Christmas. He’s scored at least one goal in 11 of his last 17 starts in all competitions including a brace in the cup semi final last week and an important equalizer vs Nantes in the previous round.
The former Arsenal man is confident, enjoying his football and playing with little pressure on his shoulders. He looks overpriced at 2.50 to score anytime, and I think this is the case because of Brest’s reputation. Only Kylian Mbappe and Jonathan David have netted more Ligue 1 goals than him this season, and this type of scorer is usually priced around the 2.0 mark in most games after such a strong campaign. Let’s grab Lacazette at a big price, and it aids our cause. He’ll be on penalty duty as well.
- Lyon vs Brest Prediction 3: Alexandre Lacazette to Score Anytime (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.50
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 5/10

Lyon vs Brest Team News and Possible Lineups: Suspensions hit both teams
Lyon defender Duje Caleta-Car is suspended so Clinton Mata should come in as a replacement. But apart from his absence they should be at full strength.
Brest will be without two key men due to suspension. Both Jonas Martin and Kenny Lala will be forced to sit this one out for Brest. Just like Lyon, they have no injury worries right now though.
Lyon possible starting lineup:
Lopes, Tagliafico, O’Brien, Clinton Mata, Maitland-Niles, Tolisso, Matic, Caqueret, Benrahma, Lacazette, Nuamah
Brest possible starting lineup:
