Tom Winch is back for the second-leg with a Lille vs Aston Villa prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview as the English side heads to France in the Quarter-Finals of the Europa Conference League.

The opening encounter was a hard-fought battle. Premier League outfit, Aston Villa, heads to France with a slim lead. The sides are priced similarly. Lille will fancy their chances of turning this tie around. They have quality in all areas. Expect the home fans to be loud as they cheer their side on.

Lille vs Aston Villa Prediction 1: Lille A Tough Opposition

Europa League, Thursday, April 18th, 17:30 (UK)

Lille have been a formidable opponent at this venue all season. Paulo Fonseca’s men have tasted defeat once at Stade Pierre-Mauroy in 2023/24. That loss came much earlier in the campaign. The hosts have beaten Marseille and Lens here in the last few weeks. They’ve held Rennes and PSG and have taken maximum points off Monaco and Brest.

Villa recorded an impressive victory over Arsenal on Sunday afternoon. They’re a side that can pull off strong results. They’ve done the double over the Gunners this season and defeated City. Unai Emery’s men have won eight of their 17 Premier League away days in 2023/24. I’m not confident they’ll go to France and win on Thursday.

The opening leg ended 2-1 to the English side. Lille had more possession, one less shot, but created four big chances in comparison to Villa’s one. Lille may find themselves unfortunate that they left without a result. They’ll be confident back in familiar territory, and I’m expecting them to give Villa a tough time in Villeneuve d’Ascq.

Backing Lille on the Asian Handicap appeals. The only way we see this bet lose is if Villa wins inside 90 minutes.

  • Lille vs Aston Villa Prediction 1: Lille 0.0 Asian Handicap (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.73
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 3/10

Lille vs Aston Villa Prediction 2: Dangerous David To Strike Again

I can’t cover a game involving Lille and not hail the praise on Jonathan David. The Canadian is having a superb campaign for the French side. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t get himself a move to a bigger club in the next season or two.

David is a goal scorer. He’s proven that for many seasons. The forward has found the back of the net 16 times across 28 matches in Ligue 1 this term. Lille’s number nine averages 1.82 shots on target and 0.68 goals per 90.

Our man has been on fire at this venue in 2024. Only Kylian Mbappe has scored more in France’s top flight this season.

Lorient – Goal. Clermont – Two Goals. Le Havre – Three Goals. Rennes – Two Goals. Lens – None. Marseille – One Goal.

Jonathan David has bagged nine times in six games this calendar year. That’s a fabulous record. The forward is on penalty duties, a bonus to our selection.

Villa have conceded 27 goals in their 17 away Premier League matches this season. They’ll be up against it at times in France. Jonathan David looks a good bet in this encounter.

  • Lille vs Aston Villa Prediction 2: Jonathan David AGS (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.60
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 3/10

Lille vs Aston Villa Prediction 3: Villa’s Man Is In Fine Form

Ollie Watkins is a goal scorer. He opened the scoring in the clash at Villa Park and found the back of the net against Arsenal at the Emirates. The Englishman is in fine form. How can I not back him in the AGS Market?

Aston Villa’s dangerman has scored 19 times for Villa in the Premier League. Only Erling Haaland has bagged more, only by one. Watkins has found the back of the net in all three matches since the international break. He has a brilliant chance of going to Germany in the summer for the European Championships.

The tie is certainly not over. Both sides will fancy their chances of reaching the next round. If Villa scores, there’s every chance of Watkins being the man who does so.

Watkins has played 455 minutes in the competition. He’s found the back of the net four times. That’s an average of 0.79 goals per 90.

The price appeals. He’s a striker at the very top of his game. He may only need a single chance to get his goal. Lille could be trailing towards the end of this encounter. They may need to flood players forward, which gives the visitors plenty of space in behind.

  • Lille vs Aston Villa Prediction 3: Ollie Watkins AGS (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.75
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 3/10
