Selection 1: Carlisle vs Sutton Best Bet

The billing

Reaching the 50-point mark in the next month would be a milestone for Sutton, while hitting the tally this season is the sole objective for Carlisle United.

Hosts’ form

Carlisle have accrued 14 points from their last eight games and, helped by the continued struggles of Oldham and Scunthorpe, look likely to get the points they need to beat the drop.

Visitors’ form

Sutton are on the crest of a wave right now and, comedically perhaps, many fans are still focused on getting the points they need to stay in this division – as opposed to the tally required to get out of it on the right side.

The Tactics Board

Amber & Chocolates boss Matt Gray could be tempted to rekindle Omar Bugiel’s partnership with Donovan Wilson, which proved so successful in the National League and in flashes this term, by bringing the latter into the XI.

Prediction & Best Bet

Bugiel’s work rate, aerial prowess, selfless movement and link-up play makes him the ideal partner for Wilson, who is a speedy poacher capable of running onto the Lebanon international’s through balls and is 3.10 to score anytime at Brunton Park.

Selection 2: Colchester vs Swindon Best Bet

The billing

The bare table shows Colchester to be a relegation candidate, but that’s now how Wayne Brown had them playing in his first game as caretaker at Salford – so could the U’s upset another Play-Off chaser?

Hosts’ form

The Essex club produced the result of the day in League Two last week when they won 3-0 at Salford, with a performance full of heart and determination.

Visitors’ form

Swindon have scored 12 goals in their last five games in all competitions, which seems even more impressive when considering that three of them came against top-10 opposition and another was against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Ben Garner’s side, though, have just one clean sheet to their name in 13 in all forms, and have added Jake O’Brien from Crystal Palace in hope of tightening up at set pieces.

The Tactics Board

Swindon have taken the hit of seeing physical front-man Tyreece Simpson recalled, and are hoping Josh Davison can replace the Ipswich loanee.

Davison might be 6’2” but he is nowhere near as strong or aerially accomplished as Simpson, who was a rugby player in his youth, nor does he enjoy playing back to goal – so quite how Town cope without an obvious reference point will define their chances.

Prediction & Best Bet

If Brown’s impact is a telling one, then Colchester look good value for a positive result against Swindon and can be backed via the Draw No Bet option at 1.83.

Selection 3: Northampton vs Salford Best Bet

The billing

Will Northampton find the creativity and firepower they need to keep their place in the top three, or will Salford bounce back from the 3-0 loss to Colchester?

Hosts’ form

Northampton have an excellent goalkeeper in Liam Roberts, a sturdy back-four led by Jon Guthrie and Fraser Horsfall as well as a solid double-pivot of Shaun McWilliams and Jack Sowerby, which is why the Cobblers have recorded 11 clean sheets this term.

Going forward, though, Jon Brady’s troops rely heavily on the left foot of wide man Mitch Pinnock, an issue not helped by the injury to striker Chanka Zimba, who was brought in to replace Tottenham loanee Kion Etete, so Idris Kanu has signed on loan from rivals Peterborough.

Visitors’ form

An eye-catching January of business has not yet manifested itself in results for Salford, who fell to a 3-0 defeat to lowly Colchester despite the arrival of target man Matt Smith from Millwall, although they did bounce back with a 2-0 victory at Barrow in midweek.

The Ammies need around 38 points from 19 games if they are to reach the Play-Offs this season: form they are yet to accomplish as a league club.

The Tactics Board

Salford’s game will be all about getting the ball to Ashley Hunter, who will hug the left touchline, then cut inside to either curl a shot at goal or loop a cross for Smith at the back-post. From that perspective, the target man’s duels with Guthrie could have a big say in the ultimate outcome.

Prediction & Best Bet

Hunter’s deliveries and Smith’s presence could mean more scraps around the edge of the penalty area for Ryan Watson to pick up, much like he did in the second half of last season for Northampton. The goalscorer midfielder will be keen to get one over his former employers, too and is a chunky 5.50 to find the net anytime here.

Selection 4: Port Vale vs Scunthorpe Best Bet

The billing

The automatic promotion chasers and the relegation candidates are promptly entering last chance saloon: it may be that neither ambition can live while the other survives.

Hosts’ form

A combination of injuries up top, winter recruits taking time to bed in and a drop in form from key midfielder Tom Conlon has seen Port Vale move from prime promotion contenders to the fringes of the Play-Off scramble.

Vale can still finish in the top three, but they would require approximately 42 points from their remaining 22 games: by no means beyond Burslem outfit, but they must rediscover momentum quickly, having taken just one point from the previous four.

Visitors’ form

Scunthorpe have lost all five league games so far in 2022, leaving Keith Hill’s side six points off safety.

The Iron must now hope midfielder Liam Feeney, who signs from Tranmere, can inspire a change of fortunes.

The Tactics Board

Vale boss Darrell Clarke could only name five players on the bench in the goalless draw at Leyton Orient, so if his side are level going into the second half, the former Bristol Rovers back-to-back promotion winner may be limited in how he can switch things up.

Sam Burns, on loan from Blackburn, is a speedy, direct striker hoping to build on a late brace against Bristol Rovers in midweek, even if his goals were only consolatory in a 3-2 defeat.

Prediction & Best Bet

Connor Hall and Aaron Martin could be vulnerable to pace at the back for Vale, so Burns is 4.30 to have an excellent game and score anytime, releasing the pounds for punters in the process.

What is an EFL Acca?

An EFL Acca is a type of betting that involves combining several selections across different matches with one single stake. An acca or accumulator usually has at least four selections but it can include many many more. An EFL acca is one such bet that only involves matches from the EFL or English Football League, the second to the fourth tiers of English football. The benefits of an EFL acca are that the odds can be massive with a very small stake as the odds for all selections are multiplied together. Every pick needs to win or your EFL acca will lose.
