Lazio vs Salernitana Prediction 1: Derby defeat still hurts
Italy, Serie A, Friday, April 12th, 19:00 (UK)
At the end of an extremely intense and nervous derby Lazio found themselves nine points behind their city rivals and with practically no hopes to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
In the space of five days, the Biancocelesti have suffered two painful defeats (against Juventus in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final and last Saturday against Roma) and are currently in Serie A’s table no man’s land and with a mountain to climb if they want to play the cup final.
Fifteen points worse off compared to last season and having already lost 13 league games (only seven Serie A sides have been defeated more times), Lazio, under their new manager Igor Tudor, are planning a major overhaul this summer.
All the over 30 players, including the club’s all-time goal scorer Ciro Immobile, Luis Alberto and Felipe Anderson, will part company to make way for younger footballers that the Croat manager considers more suited to his high-intensity and more physically demanding brand of football.
Lazio’s four remaining Serie A games (after Salernitana, they’ll host Verona, Empoli and Sassuolo) are all winnable and represent an occasion for many players to leave a good memory with supporters.

Lazio vs Salernitana Prediction 2: Visitors are on the brink of Serie B
After three tough games (Juventus twice, followed by the derby), Tudor is looking forward to seeing his team in action in a game they’re expected to dominate.
If the hosts show the same aggressiveness they had against Juventus two weeks ago, they should win this game with ease.
Of course Lazio’s goal scoring record this season is very poor (10th best attack in Serie A and only 16th for number of shots taken), but they should be able to net at least twice against Italy’s worse defence (64 conceded, over two goals per game on average) that has only kept two clean sheets (both away, against Verona and Torino).
Salernitana have changed managers four times this season and have not been able to repeat last year’s numbers, especially up front.
In fact the visitors have scored 12 times less compared to 2022/2023 as last season top goalscorer, Boulaye Dia (16 goals), has only found the back of the net four times.
The visitors have lost seven times without scoring away from home and have also been defeated with a two goals (or more) margin in seven matches on the road, including against sides in the top-half of the table like Fiorentina, Atalanta, Inter and Bologna.

Lazio vs Salernitana Prediction 3: same old problem for the Biancocelesti
Undoubtedly, having also Serie A’s poorest attack (only 25 scored and the second worst scoring record, behind Cagliari, on the road), Salernitana look doomed and might be relegated come the last week of April.
However, they’ve not thrown the towel just yet, and last Friday’s 91st minute equalizer against Sassuolo testifies they’re probably lacking quality but not fighting spirit.
Salernitana have scored at least a goal in 12 of the previous 17 games and have found the net against Roma (drawing 2-2 at the Olimpico on match day one), Bologna, Atalanta, AC Milan, Juventus, Napoli and, of course, Lazio who were, unexpectedly, beaten 2-1 in the reverse fixture.
The hosts have a poor defensive record (only ten clean sheets) and haven’t conceded in only three of their last seven Serie A games at the Olimpico.
Last year Lazio suffered a surprising 3-1 home defeat against Salernitana and this season they share with Torino the negative record for Over 2.5 goals for matches played at home: only four out of 15.
Igor Tudor’s men have only won two domestic games by more than one goal margin and have celebrated more than two goals in front of their crowd on just two occasions.

Lazio vs Salernitana Team News and Possible Lineups: doubts over Mattia Zaccagni’s presence
Mandas is still favorite to defend Lazio’s goal over Provedel who’s not fully fit after the injury. Up front, Immobile should start, with Zaccagni trying to recover from the ankle problem till the very last minute. Lazzari and Rovella are still not available. Luca Pellegrini might replace Patric with Marusic switching at right-back.
In the visitors’ camp, Weissman leads the attack with Tchaouna in support; former Lazio player Antonio Candreva will be deployed wide by manager Stefano Colantuono, who’ll continue to set the team with a 4-4-2 formation. Kastanos, Ochoa, and Boateng are all unavailable.
Lazio possible starting lineup:
Mandas; Patric, Romagnoli, Gila; Marusic, Guendouzi, Cataldi, Felipe Anderson; Isaksen, Luis Alberto; Immobile.
Salernitana possible starting lineup:
Costil; Pierozzi, Manolas, Pirola, Bradaric; Candreva, Basic, Coulibaly, Maggiore; Tchaouna, Weissman.
