Jordan vs Qatar Tip 1: Champions to reign supreme
Doha, Asian Cup, Saturday, February 10th, 15:00 (UK)
The Asian Cup champions will be decided on Saturday afternoon, and it’s safe to say not many would have expected these two nations to be battling it out.
However, Jordan’s heroic story has seen them grow tremendously as the tournament has progressed, while Qatar certainly hasn’t shied away from defending their crown on home soil.
Despite Qatar’s weak-looking group, they came out with nine points and three clean sheets in the process. The knockout rounds have tested the hosts, but they’ve won in every way possible.
They’ve shown resilience to come back from a goal behind vs Palestine, knocked out a strong Uzbekistan side on penalties before surprising Iran with a last-gasp winner. Most expected Qatar to be far weaker than when they won this in 2019, but they’ve shown multiple ways to win on the big stage.
Take nothing away from Jordan’s historic win over Iraq with two injury-time goals, but a controversial red card for current Golden Boot winner Aymen Hussein tipped the game in their favour.
An own goal saw them squeeze past Tajikistan, although they dominated vs South Korea, who failed to turn up. Qatar will need to be wary of Jordan’s goal-scoring threat, but this isn’t a new challenge for them.
They are not only the holders but the hosts. Only Uzbekistan has prevented them from winning inside 90 minutes, and Qatar is a great price to win inside 90 minutes, all things considered.

Iran vs Japan Tip 2: Leading talisman to write his own headline
One thing for certain is that Qatar wouldn’t be where they are without Akram Afif. The 27-year-old has been the star of the show for the hosts, scoring five goals and contributing three assists.
Drifting into pockets of space inside the final third, the Al-Sadd attacker certainly knows how to position himself to score.
The only games he didn’t score in were China (he played less than 30 minutes when already qualified) and Uzbekistan, although he was a whisker away from winning the match in extra time with a trademark cut-in and curling effort.
If Qatar are to become the first back-to-back holders since Japan in 2004, they’ll simply need Afif to turn up.
His relationship with Almoez Ali bodes well, and his pace and power can often draw defenders his way, which opens up space elsewhere for Afif.
Dropping deep, taking the ball out wide or attacking centrally, Afif’s free role makes him difficult to mark, which is why he’s had so much success this tournament.
From a selfish point of view, he’s one goal behind Iraq’s Hussein for the golden boot, which I’m sure is in the back of his mind. If anyone deserves to lift the trophy, he’s firmly on that list.
- Jordan vs Qatar Tip 2: Akram Afif Anytime Goalscorer
- Best Odds: 3.25
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 6/10
Jordan vs Qatar Tip 3: Goalscoring drama at both ends
The Asian Cup has guaranteed goals. The amount of late drama has continued throughout the knockout stage, and there’s every reason to suggest this will continue in the final.
Although Qatar have been scoring for fun, they’ve conceded in every knockout match to date. From Palestine to Iran, they’ve found it impossible to keep teams out.
Jordan, on the other hand, has also been scoring at will. They only failed to find the back of the net vs Bahrain in their final group match, although they were already through to the next round by that point.
They put four past Malaysia, the same amount against South Korea across two fixtures, as well as three against Iraq.
Both Yazan Al Naimat and Mousa Al-Tamari have proven to be reliable threats for their nation, and Qatar are unlikely to be able to keep both of them at arm’s length throughout the 90 minutes.
It’s important to note the amount of added time in the Asian Cup, too. We’ve seen upwards of 16 minutes, with the vast majority of matches at least adding ten at the end of games. If one team is leading, expect all kinds of chaos to close what has been a highly entertaining tournament.
- Jordan vs Qatar Tip 3: BTTS – Yes
- Best Odds: 2.05
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10

Jordan vs Qatar Team News Preview: No suspensions for either side
Both nations head into the final with no fresh injury concerns to worry about or suspensions after the knockout round.
As mentioned, Jordan’s hopes will rely on the performances of Yazan Al Naimat and Mousa Al-Tamari, who have been excellent and have scored a combined six goals between them.
Not only will Akram Afif be Qatar’s go-to striker, but captain Hasan Al Haydos has contributed three goals, including arguably his goal of the tournament vs China.
At 33, this will likely be his last tournament for Qatar, and he’ll be desperate to finish on a high.
Do keep an eye on Almoez Ali, who’s scored two and contributed two in assists. The 27-year-old striker is certainly strong, powerful and capable of winning football matches all on his own.
Jordan vs Qatar Stats Preview: Qatar to control and come out on top
- Qatar has won three of the five last head-to-head meetings between these two nations going back to 2012.
- Akram Afif is one goal away from joining Iraq’s Aymen Hussein as the tournament’s top goalscorer.
- Jordan’s Mousa Al–Tamari is the only European based player (Montpellier) in the final.
