Jimmy’s Longshot Punt: An 91.00 Long Shot for Doncaster vs Sutton United
Out expert, Jimmy The Punt is back with another longshot punt this weekend.
The International break leaves a shrivelled docket but it has allowed the focus to switch to the fourth tier where a 91.00 hattrick angle stinks of value.
Last weekend was a frustrating loss, a 1X2 trixie featuring Brentford, Bristol City and Rotherham. The former were leading up until the 90+3 minute at Old Trafford and left empty handed somehow, as Rotherham got a point on the south coast and Bristol City lost at Elland Road.
- Selection: Joe Ironside Hattrick
- Best Odds: 91.00 (Betfair and Paddy Power)
- Stakes: 5/10
Odds as at 14:00 October 12th, 2023. Odds may now differ.
Doncaster vs Sutton United: Donny not as daft as they look
England, League Two, Saturday, October 14th 15:00 (UK)
Doncaster (20th) welcomes Sutton United (23rd) to South Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon. Only three places and four points separate the sides, but the gulf in quality is perhaps a lot larger than that suggests.
Doncaster made a dismal start to this season, but the turning point was their League Cup game with Everton, a game Rovers led until very late on.
That may sound odd, considering Doncaster have lost as many games (4) as they have won since that fixture, but Grant McCann’s side has improved drastically.
Three of those four defeats came against Wrexham (2-1), Stockport (1-0) and Mansfield (3-2), three of the current top four to win the League Two title. To be edged out by only a single goal in each game is some feat.
Since that duel with the Toffees, Donny have played four times in South Yorkshire and won three and drew once, the latter a stalemate with highflying Swindon.
Rovers’ price, a touch over even money, certainly appeals, but fancy something with a bit more juice here.
Sutton United come into this one fresh off a 4-0 win against Walsall. All of the goals came in the first half from an xG of 1.19. That was only their third win and came amidst a run of 10 defeats across a 13-game period.
Doncaster vs Sutton United Longshot: Brian Potter Hattrick
The visitors are the second-worst side in the division, only by goal difference.
No side has won fewer points (7) or conceded more goals (26) than Matt Gray’s side.
Away from home, Sutton are one of the worst sides in the division. They’re yet to win a single point on the road (5 draws and 6 defeats), conceding 3.4 goals per game.
Only Barrow (2) failed to score at least three goals against Sutton at home in the league this season, which is why siding with a home player to hit a hattrick appeals here.
Joe Ironside may have only taken home one match ball in his career, but at 91.00, I think he is worth a punt this weekend.
Most importantly, the same bet is 41.00 with other firms, even in a market that divides opinion across the bookies, which is a huge gulf in price.
The frontman looks to be coming to the boil. He has scored five goals in 15 appearances this season, three of which coming in his last four.
