Inter Milan vs Salernitana Tip 1: confident Inter seem unstoppable
Italy, Serie A, Friday, February 16th, 20:00 (UK)
The Neroazzurri showed the pedigree of champions last Saturday in Rome. They suffered Roma’s rhythm and initiative in the first half but came out firing in the second 45 minutes.
As soon as the pace dropped, Inter’s quality emerged, and they turned the game around in the space of seven minutes.
In the last month, Inter have beaten five teams that currently sit in the top nine in the table, and they’re yet to drop points in 2024.
This season, they’ve taken the lead in 22 league games and only trailed three times, losing their only game to Sassuolo (2-1 at San Siro) back in September.
Inter know Juventus won’t give up chasing the Scudetto easily, so they won’t take this clash against relegation-bound Salernitana lightly.
There will probably be some changes to the starting XI, due to the Champions League games against Atletico Madrid next Wednesday, but also the reverse fixture came before a European game and yet the leaders comfortably won 4-0.

Inter Milan vs Salernitana Tip 2: a quick start to allow more turnover
Back in September, Serie A top goalscorer Lautaro Martinez (19 goals) scored four goals coming off the bench in Salerno.
The Argentine captain hasn’t netted in the last two matches and lately appeared in need of a rest.
But Salernitana is (alongside Cagliari) Lautaro’s favourite victim, as he scored nine times in five games against the Ippocampi. It is likely Simone Inzaghi will give his talisman the chance to start the game so he can get a goal and boost his confidence ahead of the Champions League clash.
But Lautaro’s mini-goal drought has hardly been noticeable for the leaders.
Twelve players have contributed to Inter’s 55 goals in Serie A this season, as the likes of Marcus Thuram and Hakan Çalhanoğlu need just one more goal to achieve double figures.
Inter are used to starting games strongly: they’ve scored six times in the first quarter of an hour and 14 times at San Siro in the first half.
Salernitana has got Serie A’s worst defence (47 goals conceded and only two clean sheets) and have conceded ten times in the first 15 minutes of a game (only Sassuolo, 12, and Fiorentina, 11, have got a worse record).

Inter Milan vs Salernitana Tip 3: a baptism of fire for Salernitana’s third manager of the season
Inter Milan’s game plan will be to start strongly and settle the game early, to then give space to those players who have played fewer minutes.
Salernitana will try to resist and hope the Neroazzurri will have a bad night.
Last Sunday Fabio Liverani was appointed to replace Inzaghi to try to save Salernitana from what seems an inevitable relegation. Only Crotone in 2016/2017 managed to avoid the drop after collecting just 13 points in 24 games.
Former Leyton Orient boss Liverani has not managed since December 2022, when he got sacked by Cagliari in Serie B, and also his previous experience at Parma in 2020/2021 ended with a premature dismissal.
Liverani has only won 13 out of 60 games in Italy’s top flight but managed to earn a 2-2 draw against Inter on his last visit to San Siro in October 2020.
The visitors have revamped their squad in January but are too often prone to naive mistakes at the back.
Salernitana are the side that have conceded more penalties this season (eight), whereas Inter’s dominance has resulted in having been awarded nine spot-kicks that have all been transformed.

Inter Milan vs Salernitana Team News and Possible Lineups: Arnautovic from the start?
Simone Inzaghi will make some turnover ahead of the game against Atletico Madrid next Wednesday.
Francesco Acerbi was subbed after an hour at the Olimpico due to a calf injury and will be replaced by Stefan De Vrij. Denzel Dumfries and Carlos Augusto should play as wing-backs, and it’s likely that one between Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram will make space for Marko Arnautovic. Frattesi is still a doubt but might be playing in the second half.
Fabio Liverani will switch to a back four, with Kostas Manolas likely to play alongside Jerome Boateng. Bradaric is suspended, and Coulibaly should start with Kastanos playing as a left winger. Weissman should feature up-front alongside Dia, with former Inter player Candreva (who scored Salernitana’s only goal in the last five meetings) in support.
Inter Milan possible starting lineup:
Sommer; Pavard, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Asllani, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Arnautovic, Lautaro.
Salernitana possible starting lineup:
Ochoa; Pierozzi, Boateng, Manolas, Zanoli; Candreva, Maggiore, Coulibaly, Kastanos; Weissman, Dia.
