He works hard but will he improve Man United? Former club heroes Mikael Silvestre and Paul Parker disagree

Scott McTominay came on against Brentford and scored a brace, leading to a much-needed Premier League victory in front of the Old Trafford faithful. We talked to the former Manchester United stars Mikael Silvestre and Paul Parker, who shared their thoughts on the Scotsman and his situation at the club, specifically if the goals against Brentford potentially could change anything regarding his situation at Man United.

Both of them are admires of his hard work but they do not 100% agree on how the future looks for the Scotsman.

He is Man Utd through and trough – he gives 100% every time

Mikael Silvestre underlines the importance of having players like Scott McTominay in the squad because he has seen it all, which is a rarity.

“You know like he said, he’s Man United through and through. He’s been at the club since he was seven years old. And I think at all the top clubs, you need players like him because no matter what happens, they’ve seen it all.

“They’ve seen the trophies, they’ve seen the tough times. They care and they’ve got the values and whenever they put that shirt on, they know it’s a big responsibility.”

Paul Parker agrees with Mikael Silvestre when it comes to the Scotman’s work ethic and he was pleased with the way McTominay turned things around for Man United in the game against Brentford.

“It was great for Scott McTominay to come on and score the brace. It was great to see a player that came through as a youngster to do well and with everything he has been through under these circumstances it was nice to see him experience something good.”

“If you look at a player who you know will do his best and give 100% every game, Scott McTominay would be one of those players. He has always given everything he has got.”

Parker and Silvestre´s thoughts on McTominay´s future at Man Utd

Parker has been criticising McTominay before, and even though he can’t point a finger at his work ethic, he still believes that McTominay should find another club in January.

“But as I’ve said before, McTominay is not a player that you would want to play in your team if you want to achieve something.”

“But is Scott McTominay going to improve Man United in the future? I would say no. Does Erik ten Hag see him as one of his regular players? I think the answer to that question would be no.”

“Would you ever want to rely on him against Liverpool or in the Manchester derby? The answer would be no again. It hasn’t worked before and we can´t keep hoping that it will work one day and that’s why he should focus on performing well until he can sign for a new club in January.”

Silvestre doesn´t necessarily agree with Parker, as the Frenchman thinks McTominay has been treated a bit unfairly as he is very much valued within the club.

“Look he has been downgraded a bit, unfairly, but that’s the top level. He has taken every minute, every opportunity and he’s played his role. That’s why you need a strong bench at this level.”

“He might get some more minutes and he can take advantage of it but surely he showed everyone why he’s so valued.”
