Germany vs Denmark Prediction: Euro 2024 Team News and Lineups Preview
It’s time for the knockout stages of the 2023/24 European Championship with Jack Wright on hand to offer up a Germany vs Denmark prediction, team news and lineups preview.
As expected Germany topped Group A but did need a Niclas Fullkrug equaliser in stoppage time against Switzerland to do so. The Danes were the only team to qualify automatically from the group stages without registering a win but are unbeaten in their last seven internationals.
- Germany vs Denmark Tip 1: Germany to win and under 5 goals
- Germany vs Denmark Tip 2: Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala both to have over 0.5 shots on target
- Germany vs Denmark Tip 3: Germany over 11.5 shots and over 4 corners
Mikael Silvestre: It Will be Tough for Germany but They’ll Progress
Will it be a straightforward win for Germany? Where can Denmark hurt the hosts?
“I think it will be difficult for Germany. I expect them to beat Denmark but there are no more easy games. Denmark have also been resourceful and they won’t be afraid to play Germany.”
“It is going to be a tough tie for Germany.”
Key player battles?
“Germany have Musiala, Wirtz and Gundogan. Denmark will have to be very compact and Højberg and his midfield partner will have to be super focused on these creative players as they are the ones who can hurt you.”
“I don’t think Rasmus Højlund is struggling.”
Morten Hjulmand will miss this game for Denmark. How big of a blow is that?
“Yeah, (Morten) Hjulmand has been superb so it’s a big blow. Whoever comes in has to fill big boots.”
“He’s been excellent. Lots of energy, very positive and very successful in his passing and dribbling. He’s also scored. A very good EURO for him so far.”
Do you think Morten Hjulmand would be a good addition to Manchester United midfield?
“United’s level, maybe. He’s got good qualities but enough to play for Manchester United? I’m not sure.”
“At EURO 2024, he’s been one of the top performers for Denmark no doubt.”
Germany vs Denmark – “Germany in extra time”
Germany vs Denmark Prediction 1: Germany to win but made to work all the way to Füll time
UEFA, Euro 2024, Saturday, June 29th, 20:00 (UK)
Germany demonstrated several different positive characteristics in their ultimately successful mission to top Group A. Opening their campaign with a dazzling, ruthless hammering of Scotland, reverting to a more clinically efficient 2-0 defeat of Hungary before digging deep and plucking a resilient 1-1 draw against Switzerland from the jaws of defeat.
Julian Nagelsmann named three identical lineups across those games although he will have to make at least one change here. Centre-back Jonathan Tah is suspended and his partner Antonio Rüdiger is facing a race against time to be fit.
There aren’t too many sides left in the tournament you would rather face with a patched-up defence than Denmark who have looked pretty toothless so far. Christian Eriksen scored their first goal of the tournament from a long throw set-piece. Morten Hjulmand’s wonder goal against England was their second and currently last as a result of a predictably turgid goalless draw with Serbia.
Both sides come into this contest boasting seven game unbeaten runs with an identical record of conceding four times in the process with neither having allowed more than one goal in any of those fixtures. The Danes will as always be well drilled, organised and hard working and although I can’t see anything other than a German win I am not expecting a rout.
We may even have to wait for the introduction of super-sub Niclas Füllkrug to find another late goal and make the difference. At this stage of the competition, a win is all any team needs, it doesn’t have to be a landslide. So therefore adding under five goals looks a great way to get the 1.65 favourites onside at a palatable price.
- Germany vs Denmark Prediction 1: Germany to win and under 5 goals (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.83
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 10/10
Germany vs Denmark Prediction 2: Kai-ly likely Havertz and Magical Musiala can hit the target.
There was debate before the tournament on who would lead the line for the host nation. It appeared a close call between Füllkrug and Kai Havertz but the Arsenal man certainly now has possession having started all three group games, opening his account in the 5-1 defeat of Scotland on the opening night.
No such conversations were had with regard to Jamal Musiala’s involvement for Die Mannschaft. The 21-year-old has lived up to the “Musiala Magic” hype with a goal in his first two appearances of the tournament.
Denmark will implement their usual pragmatic style meaning the hosts will see plenty of the ball with their attackers getting plenty of sighters at goal. Only Cristiano Ronaldo (12) has had more shots this tournament than the 10 taken by Havertz with half of those being on target with at least one in each fixture to date.
Musiala has produced less volume, exactly half to be precise and of those five attempts at goal three have been on target. But he too had at least one in each group game.
All of which means this Bet Builder has clicked in all three of Germany’s games so far in the tournament. Odds of 2.50 for that to continue are too good for me to overlook.
- Germany vs Denmark Prediction 2: Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala both to have over 0.5 shots on target (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.50
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Germany vs Denmark Prediction 3: Taking a shot there will be plenty of corners
Julian Nagelsmann is a front foot attack-minded coach and that isn’t going to change even in the do-or-die nature of the knockout stage. Upon taking the job the 36-year-old declared he would pick players that would “stress’ the opposition. In short, his sides play vertically and take risks.
This has been identified at Euro 2024 with Germany leading the way in key passes (45), shots taken (57) and goals scored (8). They had 20 shots against Scotland, 19 versus Hungary and 18 in the match with the Swiss. Over 11.5 in this Round of 16 tie looks well within reach.
To supplement that we can add over 4 German corners. The host nation has taken a joint tournament high 25 flag kicks across their three games with a low of five against Scotland and a high of 11 versus Hungary.
Of course, as hosts of this latest edition of the European Championship Germany did not have to qualify. Coincidentally it is their opponents here that had the highest average during that process averaging 8.2 corners per game. Their total of 21 is the third highest after the group stage and offers a fair yardstick.
- Germany vs Denmark Prediction 3: Germany over 11.5 shots and over 4 corners (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.80
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 10/10

Germany vs Denmark Euro 2024 Team News and Possible Lineups: New men for Nagelsmann at the back
Having named the same starting 11 for all three group games Julian Nagelsmann will be forced into a change for this Round of 16 clash. Nico Schlotterbeck looks set to replace the suspended Jonathan Tah with Waldemar Anton on standby in case Antonio Rüdiger fails to recover from his thigh injury. Nagelsmann has the scope to freshen up his front line but will likely go with his tried and trusted, leaving Niclas Füllkrug to make an impact from the bench once again.
Denmark’s only change looks likely to see Thomas Delaney coming in for the scorer of that great goal against England, Morten Hjulmand who is suspended.
Germany possible starting lineup: 4-2-3-1
Neuer; Kimmich, Anton, Schlotterbeck, Mittelstädt; Andrich, Kroos; Musiala, Gündoğan, Wirtz; Havertz.
Denmark possible starting lineup: 3-4-1-2
Schmeichel; Andersen, Vestergaard, Christensen; Bah, Delaney, Højbjerg, Mæhle; Eriksen; Wind, Højlund.
Euro 2024 Match Stats: Will Nagelsmann resist temptation to start his super-sub?
- Niclas Füllkrug has scored four goals in six major tournament appearances for Germany, with all of those outings coming as a substitute.
- Denmark have lost all five of their previous European Championship matches against host nations, including one against Germany in the 1988.
- Germany have won their first knockout game of a major tournament in nine of their last 11 attempts – all of which coming without the need for Extra Time.
- Having finished level with Slovenia on points, head-to-head record, goal difference and goals scored, Denmark finished as runners up in Group C by virtue of picking up one less yellow card – the crucial caution being awarded to the Slovenian assistant manager.
Germany/Denmark Euro 2024 Quarter Final Fixture: Second favourite or second biggest outsider await in the last eight.
