Frankfurt vs Wolfsburg Prediction: Eagles to soar with Marmoush keeping the Wolves from the door
Germany, Bundesliga, Sunday, February 25th, 14:30 (UK)
Eintracht Frankfurt conceded an added on time goal from Michael Gregoritsch to drop two points in their trip to Freiburg at the weekend. A third successive draw in all competitions and a result which means they have only won one of their last 10 away games.
A return to their Deutsche Bank Park home will be welcomed. A venue where they have only lost once in the league this season and are unbeaten in their last four.
This will be their second home outing of the week as they have Europa Conference League business to take care of first before welcoming the Wolves to their door. The visitors are proving tough to beat but their penchant for draws is stalling their progress up the table and keeping them a little too close to the drop zone.
Niko Kovač has seen his side draw five of their last six fixtures. They are winless in seven, and equidistant to the relegation places as the European spots.
The man I am taking to extend that wait for a victory and possibly be the match winner for his side is Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian international returned from AFCON duty to open the scoring against Bochum and delivered an inspired performance last weekend.
The 25-year-old contributed to all three of his side’s goals. Once again opening the scoring himself and then setting up both of Ansgar Knauff’s two strikes.
Marmoush is having by far his best season in the Bundesliga, having scored nine times with 14 goal contributions in total from 15 starts. He can add to that against the side he joined the Eagles from in the summer.
- Frankfurt vs Wolfsburg Prediction: Omar Marmoush to Score (TRACKED BET)

Frankfurt vs Wolfsburg Team News and Possible Lineups: Winless runs – who’d have them?
Eintracht Frankfurt are winless in three Bundesliga games (D2 L1), under Dino Toppmöller they have only been on a longer such run between MD2 – MD6 (5 games). At home, however, the Hessians have picked up 10 of a possible 12 points from their last four Bundesliga games (W3 D1) and have only lost one of their last 20 games (1-2 against Stuttgart).
Wolfsburg coach Niko Kovac has only once experienced a longer winless streak as a Bundesliga coach than he currently has with Wolfsburg (7 games) – in spring 2017 at Eintracht Frankfurt (10 games). Since leaving SGE, he has only lost one of his seven competitive matches against Frankfurt (W5 D1): 1-5 with FC Bayern in November 2019, after which he was dismissed as FCB coach.
Frankfurt possible starting lineup:
Trapp, Tuta, Hasebe, Pacho, Buta, Skhiri, Gotze, Max, Chaibi, Marmoush, Kalajdzic
Wolfsburg possible starting lineup:
Casteels, Baku, Lacroix, Jenz, Maehle, Svanberg, Arnold, Majer, Wind, Paredes, Behrens

Match OPTA Stats: We’re not exactly selling it
- VfL Wolfsburg picked up 24 points from their first 22 Bundesliga games of the season, their lowest total since 2017-18 – when they only managed to avoid relegation in the relegation play-offs (also 24 back then). Eintracht Frankfurt’s 33 points are five points behind the previous season’s tally at this stage (38).
- VfL Wolfsburg have gone seven Bundesliga games without a win (D5 L2), a run last seen under Florian Kohfeldt from November 2021 to January 2022 (9 games). VfL are yet to win a game in 2024 (D5 L1), the only time the club from Lower Saxony went on a longer run without a win in the top-flight was in 1998 at the start of the year (7 games back then).
- Eintracht Frankfurt (3) and VfL Wolfsburg (6) have scored the fewest goals from set pieces in the Bundesliga this season. However, both teams have only conceded eight goals each from set-pieces, while the division low is seven such goals conceded (FC Bayern, 1. FC Köln, Bayer 04 Leverkusen).
- Since the 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt in the first half of the season, VfL Wolfsburg have won just two of their last 16 Bundesliga matches (D6 L8) – only Darmstadt 98 have won fewer since (1). Frankfurt have only suffered four Bundesliga defeats in this period – while only Bayer 04 Leverkusen (0) and Borussia Dortmund (3) have lost fewer.
