FC Copenhagen vs Man City Prediction: Professional Performance
Europe, Champions League, Tuesday, February 13th 20:00 (UK)
Manchester City are almighty favourites on Tuesday night; the current holders have the easiest tie of the round in Danish side FC Copenhagen. Pep Guardiola’s side is priced up at 1.25 to win at Parken Stadium, whilst the hosts are a hefty 14.0 to record a shock victory.
There’s no doubt that City will dominate this encounter. The reigning champions will have a large percentage of the ball and the majority of shots whilst limiting their hosts to minimal attacking action. Copenhagen is well up against it. They’ll need a minor miracle to knock out the competition favourites.
It’s never enjoyable to watch when backing a lack of goals, but I think this could be a game where the hosts sit deep, allowing very little space in behind. Bayern Munich came here in the group stage, and the Germans struggled despite claiming three points. Jacob Neestrup’s men limited Thomas Tuchel’s side to just 0.88xG on the night.
City could quite easily run away with this, but I’m not quite sure that we’ll see four goals in this clash. Pep’s side isn’t quite as ruthless as they once were when they’d constantly throw men forward and rack up the score. It’s more of a case of taking the lead, maintaining possession and sucking the life out of a game, something that I expect them to do here.
These sides met in the Group Stage last season; it ended 0-0 here in a game that saw an early Manchester City dismissal. It’s highly unlikely that we’ll see another goalless encounter.
An away win is expected. It’s tricky to see them blow Copenhagen away. They know they can put this tie to bed at the Etihad in over three weeks. I expect a professional performance in a relatively low-scoring 90 minutes.

FC Copenhagen vs Man City Team News and Possible Lineups: Pep will be wary of fixture congestion
Former Nottingham Forest defender Scott McKenna has been named in FC Copenhagen’s Champions League squad alongside Alex Runarsson after their switches to Denmark following the January transfer window.
Manchester City heads to Denmark in the enviable position of having no injuries or suspension to worry about. Kevin de Bruyne was rested on the weekend along with Kyle Walker and Bernado Silva – they should all feature from the start.
FC Copenhagen possible starting lineup:
Grabara; Ankersen, Vavro, Diks, Jelert, Hojlund, Falk, Goncalves, Elyounoussi, Claesson, Achouri
Man City possible starting lineup:
Ederson; Walker; Stones, Dias, Ake, Rodri, De Bruyne, Bernando Silva, Foden, Alvarez; Haaland
Match OPTA Stats: Denmark not a happy hunting ground
- Manchester City have never won away against Danish opposition in major European competition, drawing with FC København in 2009 (UEFA Cup) and 2022 (UEFA Champions League), and losing at Aalborg BK in 2009 (UEFA Cup). They did, however, win 1-0 at FC Midtjylland in 2008-09 UEFA Cup qualifying.
- Danish sides have lost all three of their European Cup/UEFA Champions League home games against reigning European champions by an aggregate score of 12-0 – Køge BK 0-5 Bayern Munich in 1976, Aalborg BK 0-3 Manchester United in 2008, and FC Nordsjælland 0-4 Chelsea in 2012.
- This is just FC København’s second appearance in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages – they were eliminated by Chelsea at the round of 16 stage in 2010-11 (0-2 home, 0-0 away).
- Manchester City have won their last eight UEFA Champions League matches, the longest run by an English side in European Cup/Champions League history. The last team to have a longer run were FC Bayern München between 2019 and 2020 (15).
