Bochum vs Borussia Monchengladbach: Top of the Shooting Charts
Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, 31st August, 14:30 (UK)
Bochum were narrowly beaten by RB Leipzig last weekend and the performance will have encouraged Peter Zeidler. Die Unabsteigbaren came from the brink of relegation last season when they overturned a three-goal first-leg deficit against Fortuna Dusseldorf before winning a shootout. They will want to avoid that stress in this campaign.
Borussia Monchengladbach were just a point above Bochum at the end of last season but like their opponents, they will also be heartened with the way they performed on the opening weekend of this season. Bayer Leverkusen needed a goal in the 11th minute of stoppage time to secure victory.
No team’s matches in the Bundesliga last season saw more shots than Bochum’s. Their 34 games saw 31.24 attempts per game. There were a whopping 51 shots when the teams met at this ground and 38 in the reverse fixture.
Monchengladbach’s matches last season saw the second most shots in the Bundesliga with an average of 30.53. There were 39 shots as they lost to the champions last week.

Bayer Leverkusen vs RB Leipzig: Are Leverkusen Vulnerable?
Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, 31st August, 17:30 (UK)
This is the pick of the bunch in the Bundesliga this weekend as the champions host RB Leipzig. Xabi Alonso’s went the whole of the domestic season unbeaten last term and will be looking to get their hands on the title once again. Bayer Leverkusen were fortunate to take all three points from their opening game and will be looking for an improved performance here.
RB Leipzig finished fourth last season, 25 points behind Leverkusen. Marco Rose’s team beat Bochum 1-0 last weekend but will be looking to create more opportunities in this one. They lost both head-to-heads with Alonso’s team 3-2 last season.
Bayer Leverkusen’s matches last season saw an average of 26.76 shots per game. They were able to restrict their opponents to just 8.56 shots on average but they didn’t look as sturdy against Monchengladbach. Gerardo Seoane’s side contributed with 14 of the 39 shots in the match.
Marco Rose’s side’s away matches last season saw an average of 26.71 shots per game. There were 28 shots the last time they faced Leverkusen.

Bologna vs Empoli:Visitors Must Soak Up Pressure
Italy, Serie A, Saturday, 31st August, 17:30 (UK)
Bologna qualified for this season’s Champions League thanks to their exploits in Serie A last season but the summer hasn’t been kind to the club. Thiago Motta, their highly-rated manager, left to manage Juventus. They also lost Zirkzee and Calafiori to the Premier League. As a result, the team are awaiting their first win of this season.
Empoli suckered a morale-boosting away win over Roma last weekend. They have now taken four points from their opening two matches. The team avoided relegation by just a point last season so the quick start has the fans hoping they will avoid the battle for survival this time.
Vincenzo Italiano’s side drew their only home match of the season so far 1-1 but they amassed a total of 22 shots in that one. They had 20 or more shots in both of their matches against Empoli last season so 17 looks doable here.
Azzurri Empolesi conceded the second most shots in the top tier of Italian football last season with an average of 15.76 per game. They conceded 27 shots in their only away game of the campaign thus far.
- Selection: Over 16.5 Shots For Bologna (TRACKED BET)

Juventus vs Roma: Motta’s Men Managing the Game Well
Italy, Serie A, Saturday, 1st September, 19:45 (UK)
Juventus are the only team that have won their opening two matches and the strong start has the fans dreaming of their team regaining their seat at the top of Italian football. Thiago Motta has been allowed to overhaul the squad and it seems to have had the desired effect.
Roma sacked Jose Mourinho midway through last season and replaced him with former captain, Daniele De Rossi. The new manager made an immediate impact but they have made a slow start to this season. The team have just one point to show for their efforts thus far.
Juve matches last season saw an average of 25.74 shots per game but attempts have been scarce under the new manager. Motta favours a possession-based style that has starved their opponents of chances. There have been just 16 and 15 shots in their two league games so far.
There have been 24 shots or less on Roma’s last five visits to Turin. Those matches have seen an average of just 21.4 attempts.
- Selection: Under 25.5 Shots In The Match (TRACKED BET)

Valencia vs Villarreal: Skewed Data for Villarreal
Spain, La Liga, Saturday, 31st August, 20:30 (UK)
Peter Lim’s takeover of Valencia back in 2014 was supposed to catapult them back to the top of the Spanish game but it hasn’t gone according to plan. Valencia have battled against relegation more recently than they’ve qualified for Europe. There are ominous signs at the start of this campaign after three consecutive defeats.
Villarreal have seven points after their three matches. Their attack has looked menacing even though they have played some tricky teams. The Yellow Submarine beat Celta Vigo 4-3 in their last outing. They will be hoping to build on their promising start when they take on Valencia.
Los Ches’ matches so far this season have seen just 19.67 shots on average. There were just 15 attempts as they lost against Athletic Club in their last game. The last time Valencia hosted Villarreal there were just 19 shots.
Villarreal’s matches have seen the most shots in La Liga this season with an average of 28.83. This is largely due to their thrilling encounter with Celta Vigo last weekend which saw 44 shots. Under 24.5 shots landed in their other two matches.
- Selection: Under 24.5 Shots In The Match (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.83

Getafe vs Real Sociedad: Shots at a Premium When Getafe are Involved
Spain, La Liga, Saturday, 1st September, 18:15 (UK)
Getafe come into this game on the back of two draws. They’ve had longer to prepare than their opponents with Real Betis, the team they were scheduled to play midweek, in European action. However, they have a very small squad as the window draws to a close and it’s a job to see where the goals are going to come from.
Holding onto Martin Zubimendi was a huge boost for Real Sociedad but they haven’t made a good start to the season. They have suffered two defeats in three matches. However, their only win did come on the road.
With Getafe short of options in attack, they have focused on restricting their opponent’s opportunities. Their matches have seen the fewest shots in the league with an average of 15.5 as a result. There were 15 shots in their most recent home game against Rayo Vallecano.
Under 22.5 shots also landed in Real Sociedad’s only away game of the season so far. There were just 21 shots as they beat Espanyol 1-0 last weekend. This bet has won in the last head-to-heads between these sides with those matches averaging just 16.6 shots.
- Selection: Under 22.5 Shots In The Match (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.80
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
