Parma vs AC Milan: The Rossoneri to Find Their Rhythm

Italy, Serie A, Saturday, 24th August, 17:30 (UK)

Parma will have been happy with their performance last weekend. They managed a morale-boosting draw at home to Fiorentina upon their return to the top tier of Italian football. Fabio Pecchia’s side led in the first half through Dennis Man before the visitors equalised in the second half.

AC Milan head to the Stadio Ennio Tardini after they salvaged a draw with Torino in their first game. The Rossoneri scored two late goals to earn a point but the underlying data suggests they should have won the match.

The home side have a poor record against AC Milan. They are without a win in the last five head-to-heads between the sides and have conceded an average of 20.8 shots in those matches.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Milan’s sporting director, has been keen to emphasise the change in focus. The Rossoneri are aiming to dominate possession and play expansive football this season. This was evident in their first game. Paulo Fonseca’s side had a total of 26 attempts but they need to take their chances when they head to Parma. Most on our Parma vs AC Milan tips page expect a tight game but there is value in backing over on shots.

  • Selection: Over 15.5 Shots For AC Milan (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Udinese vs Lazio: Le Zebrette Look Fragile

Italy, Serie A, Saturday, 24th August, 17:30 (UK)

Udinese earned a respectable point against Bologna last weekend. Kosta Runjaic will have been happy with the result but the visitors were very fortunate to come away with a point with an xGA of 3.25. They face another tough test this weekend in the form of Lazio but they’ll have home advantage this time.

Lazio started their campaign with a win. They came from a goal behind to beat Venezia at the Stadio Olimpico. Marco Baroni’s team controlled possession and created plenty of chances in the win.

Le Zebrette were poor on home turf last season. They won just one of their 19 matches in front of their fans and conceded an average of 13.08 shots per game in the league overall. Bologna racked up 22 shots against Udinese last weekend so we are backing Lazio shots here.

Le Aquile averaged 11.58 attempts per game last season but there appears to be a little more attacking intent since Baroni came in. They had 13 shots last weekend but it could easily have been more. Expect them to comfortably exceed this shot line if they don’t take an early lead. Many expect goals in Udinese vs Lazio and it’s hard to disagree.

  • Selection: Over 12.5 Shots For Lazio (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt: New Season, Same Frankfurt

Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, 24th August, 17:30 (UK)

Borussia Dortmund’s poor domestic campaign was overshadowed by their memorable run to the Champions League last season. They will be keen to get back amongst the contenders. Nuri Sahin will lead the team into this season after Edin Terzic’s departure in June. They have spent over £70m in the window after finishing 27 points off the title pace last season.

Eintracht Frankfurt finished 6th, one place but a whopping 16 points behind Saturday’s opponents. Frankfurt haven’t beaten Dortmund in any of the last six matches between the sides so a win here is a big ask. Many in our community are expecting Dortmund to beat Frankfurt

Dortmund matches last season saw plenty of attempts but there were 26 shots or less in both of their games against Frankfurt. In fact, our bet has won in the last four head-to-heads with an average of 25.25 shots.

Frankfurt’s matches saw the fewest shots in the Bundesliga last season with an average of 24.24 shots per game. The team managed to average just 9.65 shots in their away matches so we are backing under 27.5 shots in this match.

  • Selection: Under 27.5 Shots In The Match (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich: The Home Side Starved of Chances

Germany, Bundesliga, Sunday, 25th August, 14:30 (UK)

Wolfsburg were poor last season and were rewarded with a 12th-place finish. The team finished just four points above the relegation place but they have made some positive moves in the transfer market in an attempt to bolster their defence. Those reinforcements will be desperately needed when they take on Bayern.

Bayern Munich’s monopoly over the Bundesliga ended last season as Bayer Leverkusen became the German champions for the first time in their history. Following a lengthy managerial search, the Bavarians confirmed that Vincent Kompany was the man they had chosen to lead the team this season. Pre-season has yielded good results so expect an intriguing title race this campaign.

Die Wolfe averaged 12.41 attempts per game last season, comfortably below the league average of 13.88. They managed just five attempts in both of their matches against Bayern.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Bayern conceded the second-fewest shots in the league last season with an average of 10.41. Kompany wants his teams to dominate the ball so the new-look Bayern should starve Wolfsburg of chances on Sunday. However, many on our Wolfsburg vs Bayern tips page expect Wolfsburg to spring a surprise.

  • Selection: Under 10.5 Shots For Wolfsburg (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao: The Visitors Aim to Nullify the Balugrana

Spain, La Liga, Saturday, 24th August, 18:00 (UK)

Barcelona made a winning start to life under Hansi Flick. Roberto Lewandowksi netted both goals as the Catalans ran out 2-1 victors in Valencia. Barca were well behind Real Madrid in the title race last season but have been handed an early advantage after their great rivals drew with Mallorca.

Athletic Bilbao had to settle for a draw when they faced a depleted Getafe side. That will do their confidence no good as they attempt to secure their first win at the Camp Nou since the 2000/01 season.

Last season, Barcelona averaged 15.66 shots per game. They achieved 18 attempts as they beat Valencia last weekend but their numbers against Atheltic Bilbao are far more modest. Barca have had under 16.5 shots in their last five matches against the Basque side, with an average of just nine.

Only Real Madrid and Real Sociedad conceded fewer shots than Atheltic Club last season. They conceded an average of 10.79 attempts in the league. Ernesto Valverde’s side afford Getafe just nine shots last weekend.

  • Selection: Under 16.5 Shots For Barcelona (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.80
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Atletico Madrid vs Girona: Atletico Have the Firepower

Spain, La Liga, Sunday, 25th August, 20:30 (UK)

Atletico Madrid have been very busy in the transfer market but were held on the opening weekend. They drew 2-2 against Villarreal but there were some positives. Alexander Sorloth opened his account at his new club and Julian Alvarez came off the bench. The latter should be in line to start here.

Girona were the surprise package in La Liga last season. They were embroiled in a title race with Real Madrid at one stage but had to settle for a third-place finish. The summer hasn’t been kind to the club owned by City Football Group with key players exiting the club. However, they managed a 1-1 draw away at Real Betis last time out.

Diego Simeone’s new attack should strike fear into the hearts of defenders. Atletico struggled to get shots away last season but over 16.5 appeals here. Julian Alvarez averaged 3.49 shots per 90 minutes over the last year, putting him in the 94th percentile among strikers in the top 5 European leagues.

This bet also won in both meetings between Girona and Atletico Madrid last season. Simeone’s side won this fixture 3-1 and had 17 attempts. They had 18 shots in the reverse fixture. Our expert Josh Ingram is expecting Atletico to win the match comfortably.

  • Selection: Over 16.5 Shots For Atletico Madrid (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10
