Europa League Best Bets and Predictions

Malmo vs Galatasaray: Osimhen In A League Of His Own

Europe, Europa League, Thursday, December 12th 17:45 (UK)

Galatasaray is enjoying a fantastic campaign. The Turkish side leads the Super Lig after 14 matches and has claimed 11 points from 15 in the Europa League. The squad has some impressive names, one of those being Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian is averaging 0.96 goals per 90 in the Turkish top flight. Osimhen has scored three times across 334 minutes in Europe. He is averaging 6.74 shots and 3.23 shots on target per 90. His individual xG numbers read; 1.35, 1.88, 0.74, 0.92. Those statistics are ridiculous. I want to back him to get himself on the scoresheet as they head to Sweden.

Malmo’s league season is over. They’re the Swedish champions. With competitive matches few and far between, I don’t expect Henrik Rydstrom’s men to be up to full speed. Ferencvaros beat Malmo 4-1 in the Swedish side’s recent clash.

No side has racked up more xG than Galatasaray this term. They’re a forward-thinking side with several attacking threats. Osimhen is too good for this competition, and I expect his quality to shine at Eleda Stadion. Galatasaray is priced at even money to win and 1.66 to score two goals. Backing the Nigerian in the AGS market is a great angle to consider at a larger price.

  • Selection: Victor Osimhen AGS (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.40
  • Bookmaker: Betway
  • Stake: 5/10

Bodo vs Besiktas: Capable Attacks Against Leaky Defences

Europe, Europa League, Thursday, December 12th 20:00 (UK)

Bodo provides entertainment frequently. The Norwegian champions narrowly lost 3-2 at Old Trafford a fortnight ago. Kjetil Knutsen is a highly rated manager. His side should fancy their chances in this encounter. Besiktas have the highest xGA figure in the competition after five matches. Bodo is ranked 4th. Two leaky defences face off here.

Serdar Topraktepe’s men have struggled in the Europa League this term. They’ve been a shambles at the back. Besiktas have allowed the following xG; 2.23, 2.36, 2.83, 2.31 & 2.96. That’s consistently poor. I expect that theme to continue when they face a tricky outfit at a tough venue.

The home side defeated Porto 3-2 here in September. That clash saw 39 shots and a combined xG of 4.65. Qarabag claimed all three points here in early November. The side from Azerbaijan created 0.74xG in their 2-1 win. Bodo racked up 2.76xG and 23 shots. They were unfortunate to lose, but it was another encounter with plenty of entertainment.

I’m expecting goals when these sides meet. The pair are comfortably in the top half for xG created. Both sides have seen 16 goals in their five matches in the Europa League. I expect both teams to contribute in a high-scoring affair. At least three goals have been scored in eight combined matches from ten between these sides.

  • Selection: Over 3.0 Goals (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.80
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10

Lyon vs Frankfurt: Goals Flow Wherever Frankfurt Go

Europe, Europa League, Thursday, December 12th 20:00 (UK)

Lyon’s clash with Frankfurt is arguably the best fixture in round six. The French side are 5th in Ligue 1 and have been in fantastic form. Dino Toppmoller’s men are 2nd in the Bundesliga. An impressive 51 goals have arrived in 13 matches.

It’s tough to dismiss goals between two fantastic teams. The pair sit 4th and 9th for xG after five rounds of matches. Lyon has earned a single clean sheet. The German side has achieved two, although both arrived at home. Lyon will be Frankfurt’s toughest test so far.

Lyon have scored in seven of nine matches at home across all competitions this season. Their xG figures have been impressive. Six of their previous eight games have seen them accumulate 2.0xG or greater. Six of nine visitors have found the back of the net here. Olympiacos lost 2-0 in a contest that accumulated 2.91xG. Besiktas won 1-0 when they visited. That match saw 4.65xG.

The Bundesliga statistics see Frankfurt as second best for xG. They’re 6th worst for xGA. Goals follow wherever Frankfurt goes. Seven of their nine matches outside Deutsche Bank Park have seen three or more goals.

Both sides have more than enough to find the back of the net here. The home side has several impressive forward players. Lacazette, Mikautadze, Fofana and Rayan Cherki will threaten. Omar Marmoush has been excellent this season. The Egyptian has scored 17 times in 21 appearances, assisting a further 11. Hugo Ekitike will be desperate to score in his return to France.

  • Selection: Over 3.0 Goals (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.89
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10
