Spain vs France: Spain in the Ascendancy
Europe, Euro 2024, Tuesday, 8th July, 20:00 (UK)
You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone that would argue that Spain haven’t been the best side at Euro 2024. Luis De La Fuente’s side have shown a great deal of attacking intent and they go into the last four as the favourites to win the trophy.
France have scored just three goals in the tournament. Kylian Mbappe has looked like a bright spark but Les Bleus have failed to live up to expectations thus far. Didier Deschamps has faced criticism for what is perceived as a negative approach but he has led the nation to tournament glory in the past.
Spain have forced an average of 20 tackles per game in this tournament. Their pace on the wings and intricate play has meant that only Portugal have forced more tackles. Germany made 19 tackles in normal time of their last match. Georgia made 20 tackles in Spain’s other game in the knockout stages.
France’s tackle numbers have been short of the line required for this bet but they will come under more pressure than they have done Spain are capable of taking the game to Deschamps’ team and this should reflect in the tackle numbers.
- Selection: Over 18.5 Tackles For France (TRACKED BET)

England vs Netherlands: Cautious Approach Once Again
Europe, Euro 2024, Wednesday, 9th July, 20:00 (UK)
England rode their luck once again in the last round but it’s the result that counts. Bukayo Saka snatched an equaliser in normal time before Gareth Southgate’s side kept their nerve in a penalty shootout to beat Switzerland. Any hopes of seeing swashbuckling football from the Three Lions before the tournament ends have evaporated but it can still be a historic summer for English football.
The Netherlands finished third in their group but they are now just a game away from the final. Ronald Keoman’s side edged past Turkey in the last round. The win over Romania was their only convincing display so far but they will fancy their chances here.
Southgate’s side have been risk-averse at this tournament and this has led to lower shot numbers. The pre-tournament favourites have averaged just 10.2 shots per game and their matches overall have seen an average of 17.8 shots in the 90 minutes. There have been 22 attempts or fewer in four of their five games.
The Dutch matches have been more end-to-end but they will have to wrestle the ball from a very capable England midfield here. Koeman’s team managed just eight shots when they took on France in the group stages and they could face similar issues here.
- Selection: Under 22.5 Shots In The Match (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.83

- Stake: 8/10
Argentina vs Canada: Marsch’s Men Force Throws
South America, Copa America, Wednesday, 10th July, 01:00 (UK)
The weight of expectation is all on Argentina ahead of this game but they have shown they will not wilt under pressure. Lionel Scaloni’s team advanced from their quarter-final via a penalty shootout but they will be hoping to put this one to bed in normal time.
Canada’s run to the semi-finals in their first-ever Copa America has grabbed plenty of headlines. They beat Venezuela in their quarter-final having advanced from their group in 2nd place. Their opening group game was a 2-0 loss against Argentina so this is their second chance of an unlikely upset.
Argentina had 23 throws when they faced Canada in the groups but we are backing them to have slightly more in this game with Canada growing in confidence.
Jesse Marsch’s side have forced an average of 28 throws per game at the Copa America. The manager is keen for his side to press the opposition high up the pitch and the full-backs receiving a pass is often a trigger. They forced 30 throws from Venezuela in the quarters.
- Selection: Over 23.5 Throws For Argentina (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds:1.82
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Colombia vs Uruguay: Tackle Count to Soar
South America, Copa America, Thursday, 11th July, 01:00 (UK)
Colombia hammered Panama 5-0 in their first knockout game. The result extended their unbeaten run to 27 matches. Nestor Lorenzo is yet to suffer a loss as the boss of Colombia. He will be hoping that record is still intact in a week’s time.
Uruguay beat Brazil in their last match. The game finished 0-0 but Marcelo Bielsa’s side held their nerve in the penalty shootout. La Celeste have now suffered just two defeats in 15 matches under the former Leeds boss. Bielsa has galvanised the squad and they have recorded several big wins in his relatively short tenure.
Bielsa’s philosophy requires his players to be tremendously fit. He wants his team to not give their opponents a moment’s rest and this usually leads to high tackle counts. There were 43 tackles in their clash with Brazil but that should increase here.
Colombia have forced an average of 23.25 tackles per game, the most in the competition. Lorenzo relies on the individual quality of his wide players to fashion opportunities and there should be plenty of tackles in that area of the pitch.
- Selection: Over 44.5 Tackles In The Match (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.80
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10
