This is becoming familiar ground for Wales. It’s hard to forget that the Dragons are only playing in their second major tournament in over 60 years. They made it to the semi-finals of this competition back in 2016 and have upset the odds again.
They were the fourth-favourites to qualify from Group A but ended up finishing in second. They drew 1-1 with Switzerland in matchday 1 before a crucial 2-0 win against Turkey. Rob Page’s men lost 1-0 to Italy in matchday 3 but they still sealed second place.
Denmark’s route here was a little rockier. They got off to a poor start with that 1-0 defeat to Finland in matchday 1. The Danes took the lead in the match against Belgium but ultimately went down 2-1.
Everything clicked for Kasper Hjulmand’s men in their final match with Russia. They started the evening in fourth place but finished in second. Three second-half goals secured a 4-1 win for Denmark to seal second spot.
It’s the first time these two nations have met for several years. Wales and Denmark were both in Group B4 of the UEFA Nations League. The Danes won 2-0 in Copenhagen and 2-1 in Cardiff to secure top spot in the group. Wales have won four of their 10 meetings and Denmark won the other six.
If the group stages are anything to go by then the Danes will look to dominate the ball. Denmark were amongst the sides with the highest average match possession in the groups. They kept it for 57.0% of the time during their matches. Wales were at the other end of that table. Rob Page’s men had it for 38.5% of the time.
Expect them to use the ball differently as well. Denmark tend to dribble more. They made an average of 10.0 dribbles per match in the groups, twice as many as Wales. The Dragons like to work the ball into the box. No side had fewer shots from outside the area than Wales did. They had 1.0 per match compared to 6.3 for Denmark.
Wales are the outsiders to qualify. You’ll get odds of 3.15 for Rob Page’s men to make it into the quarter-finals of the Euros for the second successive tournament. It’s 1.34 for Denmark to reach the final eight.

Both teams to score seems likely. Denmark haven’t kept a clean sheet yet in this competition. Wales have only kept one but both sides have shown to be capable of scoring goals.
Betting under on goals in the first half is usually worth it. Expect these sides to keep things tight and nervy in the opening exchanges before things open up late on. When they do, expect corners. Denmark had an average of six corners per match in the groups and Wales had three. Over seven seems fair.
If Wales find the net then it’s likely to come from one of two sources. Gareth Bale is yet to score in the tournament so far but has assisted two. One of those was for Ramsey, the man who often scores in big matches.
