The defending World Cup champions enter this tournament seeking European redemption. They lost to Portugal in the 2016 Euro finals and finished as the runners-up of the tournament.

France were denied a rematch against Portugal in the 2018 World Cup, with Portugal being bounced by Uruguay in the first round.

But France were equally satisfied taking home the World Cup and are coming into this tournament with the same ambitions. They have a world-class team and their manager will enjoy having multiple options to play, along with the luxury of resting his key players.

France Euro 2021 Group F Fixtures

France share a large portion of responsibility for their group being referred to as the ‘group of death.’ But they will have to prove themselves against the likes of Germany and Portugal.

There is also a tough Hungary squad, who will no doubt give their opponents headaches.

Their first match will most likely prove to be their toughest one of the tournament. They will be facing Germany in Munich in an all-too-important match which will dictate the group F standings moving forward.

Following that, France will travel to Budapest to take on the co-hosts in Hungary. This will be their weakest opponent and ensuring a victory here is vital. They will stay in Budapest to face off against Portugal in a rematch of the 2016 World Cup finals.

France Euro 2021 Qualification & Form

France were the best team in the Euro Qualifiers and graduated top of Group H. They played a total of ten matches and won eight of them. The only team to give them trouble was Turkey. France lost their first match against Turkey and drew the other.

They breezed through the rest of their games to guarantee themselves first place in the group.

Their qualifier opener was a 4:1 victory over Moldova. Following that, they decimated Iceland with a 4:0 result. Their next match was a 0:2 defeat against Turkey which had fans worried for a time.

France recovered well, though they couldn’t take Turkey down in their rematch. Nonetheless, they got the job done in the rest of their matches and got the upper hand on Turkey in the standings.

France scored an average of 2,5 and conceded just 0,6 goals per game.

France isn’t concerned with qualifying for the World Cup. This is why Didier Deschamps used the latest international break to experiment with different formations and give some of his players an opportunity to prove themselves.

Deschamps’ record as France manager:

Team  From To Pld W D L W%
France  July 2012 Present 112 74 20 18 66,07

One of the players that made a case for a Euros spot this summer was Ousmane Dembele. He showed his versatile skill set and a positive attitude to go along with it.  The question remains for Deschamps whether he wants to play a more defensive style with Rabiot, or a more attacking game with Coman or Dembele.

Karim Benzema will be making his return to the national team after a 6-year pause. His return will be a comforting presence for France’s forward line. He has had an excellent season in Real Madrid and his offensive potency will relieve some of the defensive pressure from Kylian Mbappe.

Deschamps has more than enough players to choose from. This team knows that they are capable of flipping the switch at any time and dominating almost all of their opponents.

Not many teams can take pride in having three excellent goalkeepers along with a world-class defense. Although Spurs are having a difficult time lately, Hugo Lloris is still a quality goalkeeper with lots of experience at the highest level.

The time for experimenting is over and Deschamps will have to have a clear vision of what he wants to do come matchday. He has a world-class team with an abundance of quality on all positions and it’s evident why they are favorites next to England to take the tournament.

France Euro History

During their famous 2018 World Cup campaign, France won all but one of their matches. Interestingly enough, Denmark was the team that gave them trouble and the match was a scoreless draw. France averaged 2,00 goals scored and 0,86 conceded per match during the World Cup.

France have won five out of their six UEFA nations matches, with only one scoreless draw against Portugal. They scored 12, whilst their defense conceded five goals during those matches, giving them an average of 2,00 and 0,83 respectively.

Their numbers took a dive in their World Cup qualifier matches, with 1,33 goals scored and 0,33 conceded per game. Their defense has managed to keep nine clean sheets in the mentioned 16 matches.

Last 10 France European Championship finishes:

  • 2016 –  Runners-up
  • 2012 – Quarter-finals
  • 2008 – Group Stage
  • 2004 – Quarter-finals
  • 2000 – Champions

France Euro 2021 Prediction

With the 2016 Euro champions in Portugal vulnerable at the moment, France will look for their opportunity to win the Euros for the third time.

Their team is full of quality players and their manager Didier Deschamps is a proven winner.

Their potent offensive line should have no problems penetrating Germany’s defensive line in their opener. It’s also difficult to imagine Portugal giving them much trouble with how they’ve played recently.

France is the favorite to take the group, and many already see them going all the way in the tournament.

France prediction: To reach the final at 3,60 odds.
