England vs Malta Expert Football Betting Tips: Value Bets, Team News and Stats
IMAGO / Domenic Aquilina Malta national soccer team player Teddy Teuma who plays for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.

Round 9 of the Euro 2024 qualification serves up a proper ‘David vs. Goliath’ tie as already qualified England host a Malta side who have yet to pick up a point thus far. A point for England guarantees them the top spot, while Malta are already seven points off second-bottom North Macedonia after a dismal campaign. A similar scoreline (4-0) to the reverse fixture would be considered a success for Michele Marcolini’s side. Read Matthew O’Regan’s England vs. Malta expert tips below.

Below you’ll find expert football betting tips for England vs Malta from bettingexpert author, Matthew O’Regan as well as match stats, facts, value bets, and everything in between.

Bettingexpert’s Value Bet Tip: Teddy Teuma over 33.5 passes

Euro 2024 qualifiers, Friday, 17th November, 19:45 (UK)

Given England’s odds of 1.02 to win, coupled with the fact Malta are yet to pick up a point in the qualifying campaign thus far and that Ħomor didn’t even muster a shot in the return leg, it is expected to be a walk in the park for Gareth Southgate’s side, with a big scoreline expected.

In the game in Malta back in June, England recorded 66% possession, controlling the game from minute one. A Ferdinando Apap own goal, a Trent Alexander Arnold 28th-minute goal, and a Harry Kane penalty in the 31st minute saw the Three Lions storm into an early 0-3 lead. This then prompted a flurry of second-half changes, which meant England took their foot off the gas.

Despite only having 34% possession, Malta still made 370 passes, with midfield anchor Teddy Teuma hitting 57 of these. In his last three games, the Reims midfielder has hit 69, 55, and 57 passes against North Macedonia, Ukraine, and England, respectively. In the games the 30-year-old has been unavailable for, Matthew Guillaumier has played a similar role. The 25-year-old hit 43 away at Italy, 46 at home to Italy, 45 away at North Macedonia, and 54 at home to Ireland when playing in the Teuma role.

Deployed slightly further forward for club side Reims, Teuma has hit 50, 73, 53, 55, and 33 in a possession-oriented side. He translates this passing ability to his international career, acting as the main midfield orchestrator for a Malta side that attempts to play possession football.

In England’s recent game against Italy, Bryan Crisante hit 64 passes. Other players in similar roles to Teuma, such as Callum McGregor (Scotland), Oleksandr Zinchenko x2 (Ukraine), Eljif Elmas (North Macedonia), and Jorginho (Italy), have cleared this total against England since the World Cup, hitting 53, 37 (in 76 minutes) and 67, 37, 46 (69 minutes) against the Three Lions.

England should race into an early lead, which will leave plenty of time for Teddy Teuma to dictate the play in a slow-tempo game.

  • Bettingexpert’s Value Bet: Teddy Teuma Over 35.5 Passes (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.37
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 10/10

Bettingexpert’s Alternative Expert Bet Tip: Teddy Teuma Over 38.5 Passes and England Over 15.5 Throw-Ins

For the longshot selection, I have selected a bet that won comfortably in the last meeting between the sides, with bet365 offering 4.75 odds for it to occur again.

While England games don’t traditionally see high throw-ins, the chaotic nature of Malta games oversees high throw-in totals. Malta have conceded 17, 15, 17, 16, 24, 19, 26, 17, 30, and 29 throws in their last ten competitive games, for an average of 21 conceded per game.

With England expected to dominate from the start and take control of the game, Malta will be seeing a lot of action in the defensive half, leading to more clearances out of play. In the reverse fixture, England hit a mammoth 24 throw-ins as the Three Lions barraged the Maltese goal.

As mentioned, Teuma hit 57 in the reverse fixture. With the 30-year-old a key member of this Malta side, expect him to be given 90 minutes and plenty of the ball in midfield.

  • Bettingexpert’s Longshot Expert Bet Tip: Teddy Teuma Over 38.5 Passes And England Over 15.5 Throw-Ins
  • Best Odds: 4.75
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10

England vs Malta Team News: Trio of players earn first call up

Due to injuries to Lewis Dunk, James Maddison, Callum Wilson, Jude Bellingham, and Levi Colwill, Ezri Konsa, Rico Lewis, and Cole Palmer have earned a call-up for the first time. With England needing a point to guarantee a top spot and with minimal competitive games until the Euros, Gareth Southgate may play what he perceives as his strongest team, giving minutes to fringe players off the bench.

The majority of Malta’s squad are based in Malta, with smatterings of players plying their trade in other European countries. Matthew Guillaumier plays for Stal Mielec in Poland, while Teddy Teuma plays for Europe-chasing Reims in France. Both are expected to start.
