England vs Denmark Lowdown:
This will be the 18th meeting between the two sides with England having the better head to head record. The Lionesses have won eight times against Denmark, notably winning all three of their previous meetings.
The Lionesses dominated the ball and outshot Haiti 21-7 in the first game. 11 of those shots were on target, the most in a World Cup game since 2011. Georgia Stanway’s retaken penalty was the difference maker in the end but England did generate an xG of 2.6 in the game.
Stanway the difference-maker
Alessia Russo was chosen to start the game as the number 9 but couldn’t find the back of the net. Her six shots were the highest in the game and she managed to test the goalkeeper five times. She will be primed to start up front again and will be hoping to make her mark at the World Cup.
Bayern Munich’s Georgia Stanway was the star of the show in England’s opening game vs Haiti. The midfielder scored from the spot and created four shots for her teammates. She was also influential in ball progression and with her tenacity off the ball. Stanway had the joint second most progressive passes in the game (14).
However the former Man City midfielder is walking a suspension tightrope alongside former club teammate Lauren Hemp. Another yellow card would rule her out of the final group stage game.
Despite starting on the bench Chelsea’s Lauren James was influential in her time on the pitch. The 21 year-old added an air of composure in possession by taking on players and threading the needle. She completed 100% of her attempted take-ons during her time on the pitch. The youngster made a strong case for a starting spot in the lineup.
Denmark have never beaten a European side at the World Cup in their previous three attempts. Lars Søndergaard’s side are looking to make it two consecutive wins for the first time in their history.
Lionesses may nullify Dane’s approach
The Scandinavian side struggled to generate meaningful chances for two thirds of the game. They recorded just two shots in the first half and just two shots on target in the entire game. Søndergaard’s side were only able to muster an xG of 1.1 in the entire game.
The Pernille Harder led side left it late in the first game, struggling to break down China until the substitutions. Amalie Vangsgaard’s header off the bench won it for them from the corner.
Former Chelsea star Harder was integral to everything the side did despite starting out of position. She took the most shots in the side (2) and created another for her side. It was ger corner that created the winning goal for Denmark. She grew in influence in the final 30 minutes playing off of a true striker.
Everton’s Katrine Veje is a key player for Denmark. The wingback is a marauding presence with her ball carrying and is a capable crosser of the ball. She created the most shots for her side against China (2). The 32-year-old attempted the most crosses in the game (10) and fits like a glove in Denmark’s approach.
Real Madrid’s Signe Bruun was the real game changer in the previous game. The 25-year-old striker demonstrated her aerial prowess and created multiple opportunities for the side. Bruun served as a target and won 100% of her aerial duels using them to link play with her teammates.
With Millie Bright’s aerial prowess for England, it’s difficult to imagine Denmark finding a lot of joy in their cross heavy approach. Bright won all five of her aerial duels in the first game against Haiti and is excellent at clearing danger for her side.

England vs Denmark Bet Builder: England to edge it
England Win: Leaving with three points
Continuing the thought process of England having the components to successfully shut down Denmark’s crossing game and aerial threat in the opposition box, England to wrestle three points at 1.70 feels like a good place to start.
It certainly won’t be easy for the Lionesses, but it’s hard to back against them when the pressures on. They have previously navigated the biggest stage in an assured fashion, so don’t be surprised if they do so again.
BTTS-No: Cagey for parts
Both Teams to Score-No is the favourite here compared to its ‘Yes’ counterpart. That makes sense. Expect it to be cagey for spells with both teams working eachother out for significant spells in the first 45 specifically.
If England can dominate possession and gobble up any balls into the box, we may have some joy here.
