Odds correct from bet365 as at 20:00 December 30th 2021. Odds may now differ.
Selection 1: Burton Albion v Crewe Alexandra – Burton to Win at 1.75
The billing
Burton were eight points off safety at an almost identical stage of last season and stayed up comfortably: Crewe, four points adrift, are hoping to take inspiration from the Brewers, as well as points.
Hosts’ form
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side finished November with back-to-back wins, but those victories over Accrington Stanley and Doncaster reflected more on the shortcomings of their opponents on the night than themselves.
Equally, the East Staffordshire outfit should not be disheartened by subsequent defeats to Wycombe and Rotherham.
Visitors’ form
Lincoln’s freefall gives Crewe a potential avenue to climb out of the bottom four, and David Artell’s troops have grasped the opportunity with two league wins in three.
The Tactics Board
Physical battles between Crewe’s physical strikers, Mika Mandron and Chris Porter, and Burton’s tall defenders, Conor Shaughnessy and Ryan Leak, could have a big say in the outcome.
If Mandron and Porter win most of them, then the likes of Oli Finney and Tommy Lowery can get into the game.
If Shaughnessy and Leak win most of them, Burton will have chances to show why they can be one of the best transitional outfits in the division.
Selection 2: Charlton Athletic v Wycombe Wanderers – Yes on BTTS at 1.72
The billing
Charlton need a win to give themselves a chance of achieving something in the league in 2022: victory would move them 10 points off Wycombe, who occupy the final Play-Off spot.
Hosts’ form
Addicks boss Johnnie Jackson admitted his side did not hit the expected heights at Plymouth Argyle last time out, falling to a 1-0 defeat that leaves the Londoners 13 points off the top six.
That is by no means Jackson’s fault, quite the opposite: after an atrocious start to the campaign under Nigel Adkins, the fact the distance to the Play-Offs is even being considered is credit to the now permanent boss.
Visitors’ form
Wycombe must bounce back from a 1-0 loss at Ipswich last time out, having offered very little as an attacking force with just the one shot on target. Then again, 11 points from their last six games represents good form on the whole.
The Tactics Board
Charlton and Wycombe both play three-at-the-back systems as well as a target man in Jayden Stockley and Sam Vokes respectively.
This match, therefore, could be decided on which side gets their tall striker pinned up against a weaker wide centre-back more frequently.
Sam Vokes can dominate Sean Clare in the air, but the same would be true of Jayden Stockley against Joe Jacobson.

Selection 3: Milton Keynes Dons v Gillingham – MK Dons to Win at 1.57
The billing
Either a comfortable win for MK Dons or the greatest shock result of the League One season so far.
Hosts’ form
16 points and 22 goals from seven games against bottom eight opposition suggests Liam Manning’s Play-Off chasers know what it takes to dominate against the lesser sides in this division.
They had to come from two goals down at Sincil Bank last time out, though, to beat Lincoln 3-2.
Visitors’ form
There is a strong sense of crisis at Gillingham, with the loss of numerous players through injury as well as the conflict between chairman Paul Scally and the board.
With that in mind, it is hardly surprising that the Kent club have lost five league games in succession.
The Tactics Board
MK Dons will dominate possession, possibly to the extent of 75-80% and look to get their two best players – Matt O’Riley and Scott Twine – on the ball as much as possible.
For Gillingham, it’s all about springing from their compact shape quickly in transitions to ensure front-man John Akinde does not get isolated up top.
Easier said than done…

Selection 4: Oxford United v Cheltenham Town – Oxford to Win at 1.65
The billing
Having set their sights on the top two, can Oxford nudge out-of-form Cheltenham closer to the dogfight?
Hosts’ form
Three wins in four includes a comprehensive 3-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon last time out, with an enterprising display.
Visitors’ form
Cheltenham have taken just two points from their last five games, and could do with some additions in January, especially in the wing-back positions.
Matty Blair and Chris Hussey, both 32, cannot get up and down the pitch as they would like, so sometimes the back three can turn into a back-five.
The Tactics’ Board
Oxford will probe patiently and run the ball between their midfield axis of Mark Sykes, Herbie Kane and Cameron Brannagan before looking for vertical, more penetrative passes.
Cheltenham will need to keep things tight, whilst also being able to release midfielder Callum Wright, so the Leicester loanee can pick up goalscoring positions behind Alfie May and one of Andy Williams, Kyle Vassell or Kyle Joseph.

What is an EFL Acca?
An EFL Acca is a type of betting that involves combining several selections across different matches with one single stake. An acca or accumulator usually has at least four selections but it can include many many more. An EFL acca is one such bet that only involves matches from the EFL or English Football League, the second to the fourth tiers of English football. The benefits of an EFL acca are that the odds can be massive with a very small stake as the odds for all selections are multiplied together. Every pick needs to win or your EFL acca will lose.
