Corinthians vs Gremio Prediction: Team News and Lineups Preview
There’s a full round of Brasileirão fixtures over the weekend and our South American expert Nathan Joyes returns to provide his Bahia vs Corinthians prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.
Corinthians made it back-to-back victories for the first time this campaign, and are now four unbeaten on home soil. Gremio, another team struggling at the wrong end of the table, defeated relegation candidates Vitoria 2-0 last time out, although their away form is uninspiring, to say the least.

Corinthians vs Gremio Prediction 1: Hosts to win again
Brazil, Brasileirão, Friday, July 26th, 00:00 (UK)
Corinthians have been whipped into shape in recent weeks, especially at home. After a run of seven matches without a win, off-field antics between the squad and with key players sold, it hasn’t been a good time for the club.
However, key wins against Vitoria and Cricuma have hooked Timao out of the relegation zone – for now. Both teams admittedly have just been promoted from Serie B, but a shock 1-0 win away to high flying Bahia showed they might have just turned a corner.
If they are to make it three wins on the bounce, they’ll need to beat Gremio, who are languishing lower than they’d have hoped this campaign. Admittedly, they have three/four games in hand on their rivals, but the flooding earlier in the year has severely impacted their season.
Key players were sold in the off-season, and they’ve not been able to replace them – in particular, Luis Suarez. His goals have been severely missed. They’ve also picked up just one point on the road out of a possible 21 – that came against Atletico GO – and 34-year-old defender Reinaldo had to bail them out late on.
While one team is thriving at home, the other can’t buy a point. The momentum swing has won me over, and Corinthians can pick up an important win at a generous looking price.

Corinthians vs Gremio Prediction 2: A rare cards bet
For those who follow my columns, it’s very unlike me to pick out card bets, as I’d rather back a potential goalscorer or correct outcome. However, the reason for the bet is due to an extremely low line in Brazilian football.
Bahia vs Corinthians saw eight yellow cards, as the visitors hung on to claim the win. There were seven when they beat Vitoria 3-2, with Corinthians picking up four themselves.
In fact, this bet has landed comfortably in four of their last five home matches.
Gremio are partial to a yellow, too. Ten were brandished in their recent 1-0 defeat to Sao Paulo, while they were also given three to Gremio in their 3-0 loss to Juventude. All three came in the final 20 minutes, as frustration crept in.
There were 11 when they faced Atletico GO on the road, as Gremio picked up four of their own.
This looks like a narrow win for Corinthians, but in such an important match, tensions will be high and recent track records suggest the referee will be in for a busy evening.
- Corinthians vs Gremio Prediction 2: Over 4.5 Cards (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.925
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10
Corinthians vs Gremio Prediction 3: Forward to be involved
Key games require key players to step up and Yuri Alberto is Corinthians’ main man. Admittedly, he hasn’t been in the form of his life of late, drawing a blank in his last nine.
However, here’s my reasoning for the score/assist bet to hopefully round off a good evening’s worth of work.
With two goals and two assists to his name, Alberto is a hard worker up top for Corinthians And with the team in dire form, he’s struggled, largely feeding off scraps. Yet he doesn’t shy away from his role and grafting for his teammates.
He was the one to assist the winning goal against Bahia last week, and lets not forget he’s scored five in six Copa Sudamericana matches, as well as two in the cup. He’s capable on his day, but he’s also willing to make runs in wide positions and put balls into the box.
If he can continue getting to the byline and putting dangerous balls across the six-yard box, his team will pick up goals to help them climb up the table. If his teammates can step up and players like Wesley can put in good crosses, Alberto will find himself room when required.
In a game against Gremio who have been so poor on the road, this is Alberto’s chance to add another goal to his tally.
- Corinthians vs Gremio Prediction 3: Yuri Alberto to Score or Assist
- Best Odds: 2.10
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 6/10
