Copa Sudamericana Outright Betting Odds: Potential Winners
Copa Sudamericana Betting Odds Intro
Independiente del Valle defeated São Paulo in last year’s final, but the Brazilian sides look set to dominate with the Ecuadorian club in the Copa Libertadores.
With seven Brazilian teams left in the competition, split across the two sides of the draw, we look destined to see at least one in the final.
America MG, Bragantino, Corinthians, Goias and Fortaleza all occupy the right-hand side of the draw. With not too much between Bragantino, Corinthians and Fortaleza, it’s best to look at the other side of the draw.
Botafogo and São Paulo won’t potentially meet until the semi-finals, but both appeal at their current prices.

Copa Sudamericana Potential Winners Odds: Brazilian pair appealing at current prices
Botafogo sits 12 points clear in Serie A at the time of writing. The club, which finished 14th last season, have shown significant progress. Although full attention will be on getting the job done domestically, they have a fantastic opportunity in the Sudamericana.
After comfortably beating Argentina’s Patronato, a round of 16 clash against Guarani awaits. There’s a sheer gulf in quality between the Brazilians and the Paraguayan club, who topped a relatively weak group.
Beyond the Paraguayans, a date with either Sporting Cristal, Emelec or Defensa y Justicia awaits, where Botafogo will undoubtedly qualify. By that point, a semi-final date would be in the diary, and the recommended 6.0 price will be sliced in half.
A winning, well-oiled Botafogo machine
The one concern over Botafogo’s run is if the gap domestically starts to get smaller and whether or not they would prioritise the Sudamericana. With key fixtures in and around the latter rounds, Bruno Lage will have some tough calls to make.
However, the main positive is they are, at present, a winning machine. They’ve won their last six domestic matches without conceding. Lucas Perri is proving to be one of the best goalkeepers in Brazil. At the other end of the pitch, Tiquinho Soares is having the season of his life with 17 goals to his name.
The combination of a ruthless goalscorer and a solid Botofogo defence that rarely concedes bodes well for the Brazilians. There’s no reason why they can’t fight on both fronts, and the Sudamericana is a distinct possibility for them.
With a more than viable route to the semi-finals, only last year’s finalists stand in their way, a team I also like the look of.
Sudamericana Silverware to São Paulo?
São Paulo will hope to go one step further than last year and will have learnt from their mistakes. Their passage to the semi-finals is arguably more challenging than Botafogo’s, but it’s manageable.
A date with either San Lorenzo or Independiente Medellin will be an adequate test for the Brazilians. Yet neither should concern Sao Paulo, who have brushed aside Palmeiras, Fluminense, and Atletico PR in front of home support. Brazilian clubs are far superior across the board, and the Copa do Brasil semi-finalists have the quality from head to tail within their ranks.
Then, LDU Quito, Nublense or A.Italiano potentially awaits. Aside from the altitude conditions in Quito, São Paulo will be odds-on to beat any of those three over two legs. As we saw in the first knockout round when America MG beat Colo Colo 5-1 at home, Chilean clubs can’t currently compete at this level.
Jonathan Calleri has led the line exceptionally well this season, with six goals in 12 domestic matches. Jhegson Mendez and Pablo Maia offer protection in front of a stern defence, with a mix of experience and youth balancing Dorival Junior’s side perfectly.
Let us not forget Junior is a serial winner – winning the Libertadores with Flamengo last year.
Both sides cannot triumph in the Sudamericana, with the two teams likely to meet in the semi-final. However, their routes to that point look painless. The pair are priced at the head of the market at 5.0, and I’d personally have them both at least a point shorter.
