The Italian side holds the advantage after the first leg, so let’s switch our attention to Club Brugge vs Fiorentina prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.
Prediction: Club Brugge 2-2 Fiorentina
Fiorentina probably deserved to score more goals a week ago, but the match followed a script many La Viola fans know too well.
Vincenzo Italiano’s men take a slender lead to the West Flanders but they might be in for a long night, says our Italian football expert Daniele Fisichella.

Club Brugge vs Fiorentina Prediction 1: same old story for ‘La Viola’
Conference League, Semi-final, second-leg, Wednesday, May 8th, 17:45 (UK)
M’Bala Nzola’s stoppage-time goal gave Fiorentina the deserved victory after an eventful first leg. La Viola took an early lead, thanks to Riccardo Sottil’s long-range strike, and played on the attack for the rest of the match.
However, as it often happened this season and the previous one, Vincenzo Italiano’s men were not clinical in front of goal.
One of Fiorentina’s biggest issues is that they need to produce an awful lot of chances (last Thursday, they had 31 shots for an xG of 2.26) to find the back of the net.
Fiorentina and Club Brugge are the top scorers of the competition, with 24 goals apiece, but both have shown some worrying defensive frailties.
For example, the Italians conceded the momentary 2-2 on the break only two minutes after Raphael Onyedika was sent off.
It is a mistake Fiorentina has been guilty of far too many times, and Igor Thiago (28 goals so far this season) was punished with a smart finish.
The Belgian side demonstrated they carry a lot of threats going forward, and with the likes of Ferra Jutglaà (who missed a glorious chance when the game was still 2-1), Andreas Skov-Olsen (in goal at the weekend against Antwerp), and the experienced Hans Vanaken they can score anytime.

Club Brugge vs Fiorentina Prediction 2: hosts have momentum
Both clubs had almost no time to prepare for their games last weekend.
However, whereas Italiano was able to make ten changes to the starting XI because Fiorentina is virtually playing for nothing in Serie A at this stage of the season, Nicky Hayen had to keep his players’ focus high.
Thanks to a 2-1 away win against last year’s champions the Blauw-Zwart are now top of the Belgian Pro League thanks to six wins on the spin.
After a difficult start of the campaign, with only four domestic victories in the first 11 matches, and the sacking in March of manager Ronny Delia, things have started to look up for the hosts.
In fact the one suffered at the ‘Artemio Franchi’ was Club Brugge’s sole defeat in the last ten matches, nine of which have ended with a win for the Belgian club.
Fiorentina’s form continues to be inconsistent, they’ve only won back-to-back games once in 2024 and Sunday’s loss at Verona was their ninth since the turn of the year.

Club Brugge vs Fiorentina Prediction 3: Italiano’s men will need another heroic game
But La Viola, who are just one point better off in Serie A compared to last season, had almost no motivation at the weekend, whereas Verona are fighting to avoid relegation.
Winning the Conference League has always been Fiorentina’s main objective this season and probably the only way they could be guaranteed to play in Europe in 2024/2025.
En route to last year’s final in Prague, Fiorentina have often done it the hard way, losing the home legs in both the quarter-final against Lech Poznań and the semi-final against Basilea.
However, they managed to turn those ties around thanks to heroic performances on the road, scoring 15 away goals in the four knockout ties before losing 2-1 to West Ham.
During the current European campaign, Fiorentina has only been beaten once (1-0 by Rapid Wien back in August) but has scored less away from home (only eight goals, four of which were against Maccabi Haifa in Budapest) than a year ago.
A tough game awaits the visitors, considering they’ve only kept six away clean sheets in all competitions this season.
Having limited the deficit in the first leg to just one goal, Club Brugge will feel they have more than a chance to reach the final in Athens.
In fact if the Belgian side’s away form has been poor this year (10 defeats), it’s a different story in front of their fans.
The hosts have only failed to score once at the Jan Breydel Stadium (0-0 in the derby against Cercle back in December) and have only lost one game.

Club Brugge vs Fiorentina Team News and Possible Lineups: a tactical change for the Belgians
Because of Onyedika’s suspension and the need to chase the game Hayen will choose a more attacking line-up.
Vanaken will slot in midfield, with Nusa, who did not play in the first leg, joining Thiago in the 3-5-2 formation. Meijer and Jutgla will play on the flank. Former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet played at the weekend and should be available, Skov-Olsen is also in contention to start the match.
For Fiorentina two changes in the back four, with Kayode replacing Dodo and Martinez Quarta playing at center-back instead of Luca Ranieri.
Milenkovic and Biraghi will complete the back four. Bonaventura and Mandragora will be in the middle of the park. Nico Gonzalez, Beltran and Sottil will support Belotti.
Club Brugge possible starting lineup:
Mignolet; Sabbe, Spileers; Mechele; Meijer; Skóraś, Odoi, Vanaken, Jutglà; Nusa, Thiago
