Chelsea vs Luton Bet Builder Tips, Opta Stats, Player Props: Boehly’s Billions to Finally Pay Dividends?
IMAGO / Sportimage Pascal Gross of Brighton and Hove Albion and Amari™i Bell of Luton Town challenge for the ball during the Premier League match

Friday night plays host to a David vs Goliath-style match-up, and of course, we have Chelsea vs Luton bet builder tips to accompany your viewing. Todd Boehly has splashed the cash again this summer, with nearly £400 million spent already.

On the other hand, Luton have splashed less than £20 million. The sizeable gulf between the two clubs is just one of many we’ll see in the English Premier League this season, as Luton seeks to topple Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea vs Luton Opta Stats: Stoke’s Ricardo Fuller – not a name one was expecting to see here

  • Luton are set to become just the second side to see each of their first two Premier League games come away from home after Blackpool in August 2010.
  • Following his penalty against Brighton on MD1, Carlton Morris could become the first player to score in a team’s first two ever Premier League games since Ricardo Fuller for Stoke in 2008-09.
  • Luton are winless in their last 27 top-flight away matches (D6 L21) since beating Aston Villa 2-1 back in March 1991 courtesy of a Derek Mountfield own goal and a Mark Pembridge strike.
  • Chelsea have fallen 1-0 behind in six consecutive Premier League games, never conceding the opening goal in seven successive matches in the competition.

Chelsea vs Luton Bet Builder Tips: Jackson’s Chelsea to get off on the right foot

Nicolas Jackson To Score

After signing for a reported £32 million fee from Villareal, Nicholas Jackson has impressed Chelsea fans, despite failing to score in a competitive match thus far. The 22-year-old Senegal international is quick, strong, and direct and proved a handful for Virgil Van Dijk in the opening-day draw vs Liverpool. In this match, Jackson recorded four shots, two on target, and was unlucky not to score with his 0.55xG.

The next game was a disappointing 3-1 loss over London rivals West Ham, but Jackson stood out yet again, recording a 0.79xG. The Gambian-born striker is not one who is reliant on service, as his pace, power, and close control allow him to create chances for himself out of nothing.

It seems like a matter of time until Jackson gets on the scoresheet. His attacking prowess was evident at Villareal, scoring 12 goals in 16 starts.

Luton seemed out of their depth in their Premier League debut, conceding 27 shots for a 4.01xG against Brighton. With the plethora of attacking talent Chelsea possesses, as well as the added defensive solidity of Moises Caicedo, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be expecting to create an abundance of chances.

A home game against relegation favourites is the perfect opportunity for Jackson to showcase his inevitable talent to an expectant home crowd. I am willing to bank on him cashing in some of his xG on Friday.

Over 4.5 Chelsea Goal Kicks

Despite being outclassed in the opening encounter at the AMEX Stadium, Luton still looked for opportunities to get on the front foot. A front two containing the powerful duo of Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris means Luton favours a more direct style of play. Rob Edwards will take solace in the joy Michal Antonio got against the Chelsea back three.

Luton forced Brighton into eight goal kicks in their Premier League debut, despite limited possession (29%). In fact, in Luton’s last 20 games, their opponents have taken at least five goal kicks, a testament to their attacking ambition. While obviously, the Premier League is obviously a step up, the stats are positive.

Fifteen of Chelsea’s last 20 games have seen them take five or more goal kicks, including both games this season (six and five). With Chelsea expected to lead for most of the match, expect Luton to put on late pressure with direct football.

Amari’i Bell Over 1.5 Tackles

The final leg of the bet builder comes in the tackle market. Rob Edwards favours a back five for his Hatters side, with Amari’i Bell filling in as the left-centre-back. In the opener vs Brighton, he made two tackles. The 29-year-old has hit 2, 1, 5, 2, and 2 tackles in his last five games. Due to Ryan Giles’ attacking tendencies, Bell often gets dragged out to cover on the left flank and acts more as a fullback.

Opposing left backs against Chelsea so far this season have hit four and two tackles, with Raheem Sterling and the marauding right-back causing issues. With Chelsea expected to dominate the game, I expect Bell to rack up the tackles yet again.
