Atletico Madrid vs Lazio: Atletico in for the Kill
Europe, Champions League, Wednesday, December 13th, 20:00 (UK)
Atletico Madrid have the edge going into this final group game. They have already secured their place in the round of 16, but they need a result here to ensure they top Group E. Diego Simeone’s side are in good form. They have won five of their last six matches in all competitions, and their only defeat came at Camp Nou.
Lazio are unbeaten in four matches coming into this one. However, they have failed to win any of their last four away matches, and they are currently languishing in 10th place in Serie A.
Simeone’s side have evolved this season. Atletico are known for being defensively minded, but they have shown plenty of attacking impetus. They are averaging 2.13 goals per game in La Liga, more than both Real Madrid and Barcelona. They are averaging 15.9 shots per game at the Wanda Metropolitana and had 27 in their last match there in the Champions League.
A draw won’t do for Lazio, so expect them to throw caution to the wind at some stage. This should leave spaces for Atletico to exploit. There were 28 shots in the previous meeting between these sides in the group.
FC Porto vs Shakhtar Donetsk: Porto to Seize their Opportunity
Europe, Champions League, Wednesday, December 13th, 20:00 (UK)
This is another important match in the Champions League. Porto have home advantage and better goal difference ahead of the clash but they need to be at their best against a dangerous Shakhtar.
Shakhtar, like Porto, have enjoyed a solid campaign but only one can qualify in 2nd behind Barcelona.
Porto will want to kill this match off as early as possible in order to avoid a nervy finish. They have looked threatening in their home games this season. They are averaging 18.25 shots per game at the Estadio do Dragao in all competitions. They had 16 in their last Champions League match here and even managed 13 against Barcelona.
Whilst Shakhtar will be happy with their work in this competition, they won’t enjoy the same level of possession that Barcelona did at this ground. Their last 10 away Champions League or Europa League matches, including qualifiers, have seen their opponents average 17.6 shots per game.

Newcastle vs AC Milan: Another Blockbuster on Tyneside
Europe, Champions League, Wednesday, December 13th, 20:00 (UK)
Newcastle need to win and hope that results elsewhere go their way to qualify. They were beaten by Borussia Dortmund in their last Champions League home match, and it has left them on the brink of elimination. Expect Eddie Howe’s men to go full tilt for the win with Europa League football as the consolation prize if PSG gets the job done.
AC Milan are in the same position as Newcastle. They are two points behind PSG and need the win. They made it to the last four of this competition last season, so elimination at this stage would be bitterly disappointing.
Both sides will be adventurous going forward, so expect plenty of goal kicks as a result. Newcastle forced 10 goal kicks from Milan in the last head-to-head despite Eddie Howe’s side managing just six shots in the match. Dortmund had 11 goal kicks in Newcastle’s previous Champions League match at St. James’s Park.
Milan are averaging 8.4 goal kicks per away game in all competitions this season. However, they could reach a much higher number here if Newcastle are chasing the win for an extended period.
