Celta Vigo vs Girona Tip 1: Valuable Visitors
Spain, La Liga, Sunday, January 28th, 13:00 (UK)
After our profitable preview between Girona vs Sevilla on Sunday night, I’m happy to get onside with the current league leaders once again as they face an underwhelming Celta side at Estadio da Balaidos.
Girona brushed Sevilla aside over the weekend in an emphatic 5-1 win. They’ve now won 16 of their 21 La Liga matches this term and have suffered defeat on just a single occasion. Michel’s side has scored the most goals (51), has the best away record in the division (7W-3D-0L), and is an appealing price on the Asian market.
Celta Vigo is having a difficult time in 23/24. They’ve won just three times across 21 matches in the topflight. Two of those victories came against the bottom two in Granada and Almeria.
We can back the away side on a 0.0 Asian Handicap here, essentially Draw No Bet. This selection has lost in a combined four matches from 42 this term. It feels like a no-brainer given where either club is sat at the table.
The visitors haven’t tasted defeat in 13 consecutive matches. Girona have beaten the likes of Barcelona and Atletico in that run. They’ll be full of confidence heading here on Sunday afternoon and at the very least are expected to avoid defeat.
Rafa Benitez’s side has the third-worst home record, keeping just three clean sheets with only four sides have scored fewer goals. Celta managed just four shots in the reverse fixture and six in their defeat here over the weekend against Sociedad, creating a lowly 0.26xG.

Celta Vigo vs Girona Tip 2: Awesome Artem
Artem Dovbyk, what a player. The Ukrainian stole the show in Girona’s beating of Sevilla on Sunday night as he recorded a six-minute hattrick. The trio of goals catapulted the 26-year-old into the top goalscoring charts. He now leads the way with 14 strikes alongside a certain Jude Bellingham.
There’s no doubt that Dovbyk will start the match. His confidence levels will be sky-high after his fantastic performance last time out. With the likes of Savio, Yan Couto, Portu and Tsygankov all heavily involved in attacking areas, the physical forward won’t be short of chances.
Girona’s number nine has played 1255 minutes of football in La Liga this season, and he’s taken 48 shots in that time, averaging an attempt every 26 minutes. Dovbyk has a 0.78xG per 90 and is finding the back of the net every 90 minutes on average for the league leaders.
With the hosts managing just three clean sheets this term, I struggle to see how they keep out the most potent offensive team in the division. Our man will also be on penalty duties, a bonus if his side were to be awarded a spot-kick.
- Celta Vigo vs Girona Tip 2: Artem Dovbyk Anytime Goal Scorer (TRACKED BET)

Celta Vigo vs Girona Tip 3: Solid Statistics
I’ve highlighted Celta’s struggles offensively; I don’t expect them to have a huge amount of joy in attacking areas against Girona. This isn’t a mastermind selection in the slightest, but it’s a nice part of the bet builder.
Celta has scored three times just twice this season; one of those occasions occurred against Almeria, the basement boys. Bilbao was the only other side to concede a trio of goals against The Sky Blues, which came as a bit of a shock considering the strengths of Ernesto Valverde’s side.
Girona has conceded more than twice on three occasions; two of those came against the Madrid clubs, with the other arriving against Mallorca. The latter is certainly a one-off, like Celta’s clash with Athletic Bilbao.
Now, the larger part of the selection, in terms of odds, that is. Girona have been a force. They’ve been excellent at scoring goals, especially after the break. Across their 21 La Liga matches, Michel’s men have scored in 18 separate matches in the second half. That includes eight of ten away from home.
This selection has landed against Celta in 12 of their 21 matches this term, which includes the reverse fixture where Girona won 1-0 at the death. Six of Celta’s 11 opponents here have scored in the second half of matches.
Barcelona, Atletico and Real Madrid have scored seven goals between them against Benitez’s side this term, and six of those goals arrived after the break. It may not be easy for Girona to make a breakthrough early on, but it appears that chances will arrive as the game progresses.
- Celta Vigo vs Girona Tip 3: Celta Vigo Under 2.5 Goals & Girona Over 0.5 Second Half Goals (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.90
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 10/10

Celta Vigo vs Girona Team News Preview: Usual Suspects
It’s good news for the away side. All attacking players are available for this encounter. Defensively, there are a couple of injured players. Juanpe went off early in Girona’s win over Sevilla. He’s expected to miss this clash. David Lopez has been absent for several weeks, and he’s not expected to return to action just yet.
Minimal changes are expected for the visitors; Antal Yaakobishvili could step in at central defence – the Hungarian youngster has appeared in the previous two matches for Girona.
There’s not a whole lot to report in regards to the hosts, with no recent injury news, which is a bonus. A similar lineup is expected from their defeat on Saturday night. Aspas is not quite firing as he has done since joining Celta. The 36-year-old is well on track for his worst season in terms of league goals since the 14/15 campaign.
