Burton vs Cambridge Bet Builder Tips: + Powell packs punch at the Pirelli
Joe Powell to Score Anytime
As a product of the renowned West Ham academy, Joe Powell caught the eye of former Burton manager Nigel Clough whilst playing for the Hammers U23 side, agreeing a permanent switch to the Pirelli Stadium in the January transfer window of 2020.
The attacking midfielder had a steady start with his new club but fully established himself in his first full season. Sixteen goal involvements across all competitions for the Brewers was an impressive tally.
However, it was Powell’s eye for goal that season that really grabbed the attention. A healthy return of nine goals included several stunning long-range strikes. Most notably, a 35-yard screamer against Portsmouth that won him the Goal Of The Season award.
A quieter couple of campaigns followed, but he has been frequently singled out for praise by Dino Maamria. A manager who seems to be bringing the best out of what was looking like wasted talent.
Powell was at it again on Tuesday as he blasted in another long-range drive to bring his side level against Wigan before firing home from the penalty spot to clinch a crucial victory.
That made it three goals in his last three home games for a player who is all but certain to get the full 90 minutes here. He has a hammer of a left foot and is on penalties, so the odds of 5.00 are a great addition to the bet builder.
Burton Albion or Draw Double Chance
With nice odds for a pick with an excellent chance in leg one, it means I can be a bit more cautious with my final two selections. So, instead of taking Burton to win this, I am taking them Double Chance to add the safety net of getting the draw onside, too.
After a slow start to the season, the Brewers have put a run together of five games without defeat in all competitions. The come-from-behind win on Tuesday against a Wigan side plying their trade in the Championship last season particularly impressed manager Maamria.
In contrast to the hosts, Cambridge are on a five-game winless run in all competitions. A 4-0 thumping at the hands of Barnsley in midweek was their heaviest home defeat since September 2021, when they were beaten 5-1 by Lincoln.
Highly regarded manager Mark Bonner has seen his side only pick up one win from their six away games in all competitions this term, collecting just one point from their last three road games in the league.
Under 4 Goals
It is easy to see why this looks like a rock-solid way to complete the bet builder after casting your eye over the results for both sides this season.
Burton have played seven games at their Pirelli Stadium home in all competitions so far this campaign. They have not scored more than two goals in any of them and have failed to score in three.
With just six goals scored and only nine conceded, none of those seven fixtures has seen over 3.5 goals, which is the line we are playing here.
It’s a similar story for Cambridge on the road. The U’s have played six games so far, also not scoring more than two goals in any of them and failing to score three times.
Five goals scored and eight conceded have resulted in all of those six games producing under 3.5 goals. From a combined 25 fixtures in all competitions this season, only three have featured four or more goals.
