Burnley vs Manchester United: Hojlund To Leave His Mark
Burnley vs Manchester United Bet Builder Tips, Opta Stats and Player Props
Scott Thornton has looked at Burnley vs Manchester United bet builder tips this weekend as Kompany’s side chases their first win of the Premier League campaign on Saturday night.
They are taking on a United side that has struggled in recent weeks, and fatigue could be an issue after their midweek trip to Germany. Ten Hag’s side have lost three of their five Premier League matches so far.

Burnley vs Manchester United Stats: United usually edge proceedings
- Burnley have won just one of their last 15 Premier League games against Manchester United (D5 L9), a 2-0 away win in January 2020.
- Manchester United have lost three of their last four Premier League games (as many as in their previous 14 combined), conceding at least two goals each time. They’ve not conceded 2+ goals in five consecutive league games since November 1977 (a run of six).
- Only Erling Haaland (29) has had more shots than Man Utd’s Marcus Rashford in the Premier League so far this season (23). However, just six of Rashford’s 23 attempts have been on target, scoring just one goal.
- Burnley haven’t won any of their last 13 Premier League games in August and September (D4 L9) since enjoying a 2-0 win over Norwich in September 2019.
- Burnley have received a red card in three of their last six Premier League matches (Matt Lowton vs Aston Villa in May 2022, Anass Zaroury vs Man City in August, Lyle Foster vs Nottingham Forest in September), one more than they received in their previous 200 top-flight games combined (2).
Burnley vs Manchester United Bet Builder Tips: Both sides desperate for three points
Both Teams To Score
Erik Ten Hag has opted to change the tactical shape of his Manchester United side this season, and it has left them looking open when their opponents win the ball back. The Dutch manager has also had to deal with a host of injury problems, and it has left his team looking weak defensively.
Burnley have struggled to create chances so far this season. VAR denied them a winning goal against Nottingham Forest in their last match, but they finished the game with an xG of just 0.55. Their xG of 3.42 is the lowest in the Premier League. However, they have managed to score in their last two home games, both of which were against tough opposition.
The Clarets have scored in just one of the last seven matches against Manchester United at Turf Moor, but this is the first with Kompany in charge. The former Manchester City captain will no doubt have his players chomping at the bit for this one, so I’m backing both teams to score in an entertaining game.
Over 9.5 Corners In The Match
We are betting on corners for our second bet builder angle. There should be chances at both ends as the teams chase an important victory, and their respective corner numbers so far this season make for good reading.
Manchester United’s matches so far this season have also seen plenty of corners. They have plenty of pace in wide areas, and they look to exploit the flanks in order to get at the opposition. Players such as Bruno Fernandes also help inflate the corner numbers with their willingness to try their luck from distance.
So far, the Red Devil’s matches are averaging 12.8 corners per game; that’s the 2nd most in the Premier League. Burnley’s matches are averaging a lot less, with 10.25 per game, but that’s still above the required mark for this angle to win. There have been at least ten corners in all of Burnley’s home matches and all of United’s away matches this season.
Hojlund To Score Anytime
Our final angle is Rasmus Hojlund to score at any point in the match. The striker has yet to open his account in the Premier League but has looked lively so far.
Manchester United were crying out for a number nine last season, and they have opted for the young striker to fill that void. He came on against Arsenal for the last 30 minutes and had a goal ruled out by VAR against Brighton and was substituted to a chorus of jeers from the Old Trafford crowd, indicating how well he played.
Hojlund runs the channels and has a tremendous physical presence. He should prove to be a handful for the Burnley defence, and United should create a few clear-cut chances. Despite the poor results, they’ve created enough chances in their defeats. They have an xG of 9.13 across their five league matches so far, and Hojlund should give them a target to aim at in the box.
