RB Leipzig vs Hoffenheim: These Sides can go Toe-to-Toe
Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, December 16th, 17:30 (UK)
RB Leipzig come into this clash on the back of three consecutive wins but they need to keep up that momentum if they want to close the gap on the title challengers. They are currently six points behind Bayer Leverkusen and risk being dragged into a top-four battle if they are beaten here.
Hoffenheim have made a strong start to the season overall. This is the best they have played since Julian Nagelsmann’s time at the club, and they are contenders for European football once again. They managed to end a run of four matches without a win by beating Bochum in their last match, but the poor run was costly after their brilliant opening couple of months.
RB Leipzig are averaging 16.57 shots per home game this season and they could rack up a few against Hoffenheim. Their last home match in the Bundesliga saw them rack up 23 shots, and the visitors are conceding 15.21 shots per game, well above the league average of 13.73.
Hoffenheim’s away matches this season have seen an average of 29.14 shots per game. This bet has won in five of their seven Bundesliga matches on the road, so I’m happy to take the 27.5 match shot line here.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Eintracht Frankfurt : Leverkusen to Pile on the Pressure
Germany, Bundesliga, Sunday, December 17th, 16:30 (UK)
Bayer Leverkusen suffered a setback last weekend, but they have maintained their advantage at the top of the Bundesliga. Xabi Alonso’s side have drawn with Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund in their last two matches, but they remain in charge of the title race. This is partially because Eintracht Frankfurt did them a favour last weekend.
Frankfurt’s 5-1 demolition of Bayern Munich reverberated around Germany. The result was a massive shock and it ended their run of four straight defeats, but they face another stern test this weekend. The trip to Leverkusen will require them to be at their best once again and even that may not be enough against Alonso’s men.
Leverkusen are averaging 19.86 shots per home game in the Bundesliga this season. They have had 18 or more in six of those seven matches so the price on offer looks solid here. Alonso wants his side to dominate matches and they should rack up a good amount of shots, barring an early goal for the home side.
Bayern Munich had 20 shots as they chased the game against Frankfurt last weekend. Leverkusen are unlikely to fall behind by a wide margin in a similar manner but it showed that the better teams can create plenty of chances against Frankfurt.
Bayern Munich vs Stuttgart: Bayern to Play their Part in Another Thriller
Germany, Bundesliga, Sunday, December 17th, 18:30 (UK)
Bayern Munich returned to winning ways in the Champions League after being thumped by Eintracht Frankfurt. However, they will want to bounce back in the Bundesliga this weekend, with the team still trailing Leverkusen by four points.
Stuttgart have been exceptional in the opening months of this season. They have the chance to overtake Bayern in the league with a win here. They narrowly avoided relegation last season, but they have recently emerged as contenders for a Champions League spot.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are menacing at the Allianz this season. They are averaging 21.67 shots per game, and they will want to exorcise their demons following last weekend’s defeat. Their home matches are averaging 29.33 shots overall, and they face a capable opponent here.
Stuttgart earned a 2-2 draw at this ground last season and they are much improved in this campaign. They are averaging 16.57 per game in the Bundesliga and should make a healthy contribution towards the shot count here. Their last league match was against Leverkusen, and there were 40 shots.
