Stuttgart vs Darmstadt: Stuttgart matches to continue to be a glut of goals
Germany, Bundesliga, Friday, September 22nd, 19:45 (UK)
Stuttgart narrowly avoided relegation last season as they held on to their spot in the Bundesliga by winning the relegation playoff. They look set to compete much higher up the table this campaign and have secured three wins in their opening four matches. They impressed as they beat Mainz on the road last weekend.
Darmstadt were one of the favourites to be relegated before a ball was kicked. They were promoted from the second tier last season and are still in search of their first win of the season. They looked set to clinch it when they left 3-0 last weekend, but they could not hold on.
Stuttgart’s league matches so far this season are averaging five goals per game. This net landed as they beat Mainz in their last match. The 5-1 defeat against Leipzig was also a reminder that there are some defensive frailties despite the excellent start.
Darmstadt may be without a win, but they have scored in their last three games. They were rampant in the opening stages against Monchengladbach, and their attackers will take confidence from that display. Both teams have scored the last four times Darmstadt have faced Stuttgart.
Crystal Palace vs Fulham: Eagles carry plenty of threat without Zaha
England, Premier League, Saturday, September 23rd, 15:00 (UK)
Our first selection for this week comes in the Premier League. Crystal Palace picked up their second win in the league against Luton last weekend, and another win this weekend would comfortably put them in the top half of the table. They lost Aleksandar Mitrovic in the summer but have still looked a threat going forward in the opening matches of the season.
Like Fulham, Crystal Place lost a key attacker this summer in the form of Wilfried Zaha. The likes of Edouard, Eze and Ayew have been sharp at ensuring the Eagles still carry plenty of threat going forward. Roy Hodgson’s side are level on points with their opponents coming into this one.
Both teams have scored in Palace’s last three Premier League matches. Throughout the season, Hodgson’s side are scoring 1.2 and conceding 1.4 per game.
Over the course of their last ten away matches in the Premier League, Fulham are scoring an average of 1.3 per game and conceding 1.7. Their last match against Crystal Palace finished 2-2.
Borussia Monchengladbach vs RB Leipzig: Are Leipzig title challengers?
Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, September 23rd, 14:30 (UK)
Borussia Monchengladbach looked in a world of trouble last weekend when they were 3-0 down to Darmstadt in the opening 33 minutes. Darmstadt are widely tipped for relegation, and how they got the Monchengladbach defence is a huge cause for concern. Gerardo Seoane’s side were able to salvage a draw, but they will need to be better against RB Leipzig.
Marco Rose’s side continued their good run by thumping Augsburg 3-0. Their only loss in their four matches was the narrow defeat against Bayer Leverkusen. They are now in 3rd, one point behind the league leaders, and set to mount a challenge for Bayern’s crown.
Monchengladbach aren’t in the best form, but they will take confidence in the fact that they have beaten Leipzig on their last three visits to this ground. Their last ten league matches have seen an average of 3.9 goals per game, with Monchengladbach contributing with 1.7 of those.
Leipzig have scored in their last nine league matches and are averaging 2.4 goals per game in their last ten. They will be disappointed if they don’t come away from this with three points, but they will be wary after recent visits to Borussia Park.
