Welcome to our Brentford vs Sheffield United prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview. The basement boys Blades head to Brentford seeking to keep their Premier League status intact for a little bit longer as the call of the Championship intensifies.
The Bees have been the only side worse than Chris Wilder’s outfit since he returned to the S2 dugout. James Cantrill, our go-to Sheffield United fan, is on hand to provide three best bets at 1.83, 5.50 and 31.00.
- Brentford vs Sheffield United Tip 1: Late Goal (79.59+)

- Brentford vs Sheffield United Tip 3: Sheff Utd Win and Ivo Grbic Card
Brentford vs Sheffield United Prediction 1: The Late Show
England, Premier League, Saturday, April 13th, 15:00 (UK)
Sheffield United may be going down, but not without a little bit of resistance.
Although Chris Wilder’s outfit have been on the receiving end of two 5-0 thumpings and hit for six against Arsenal since his return to the Bramall Lane dugouts, the Blades have taken 11 points.
For context, Sheff Utd’s next opponents, Brentford, have only taken ten over the same period.
The Blades will be left rueing a lack of conviction in the final 15 minutes of games this term, no side has conceded more goals in the top flight in this period of matches.
Although the Blades snatched a point in late fashion against Chelsea, they recently dropped a point at Anfield and three points against Fulham and Bournemouth after conceding five goals beyond the 75th-minute mark.
A lack of squad depth is clearly to blame for this, and with as many as eight of the Blades squad in the treatment room, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more late drama in the capitol this weekend.
Bet365 have a late goal (scored after 79:59) at 1.83, and although it is a bit of an unusual market, I think it is worth a punt.
- Brentford vs Sheffield United Prediction 1: Late Goal (79.59+ mins) (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.83
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 5/10
Brentford vs Sheffield United Prediction 2: Red Hot Chile
Brentford have had defensive issues of their own recently.
To be fair to Thomas Frank, he lost two of his first-choice back three in Ben Mee and Ethan Pinnock.
The latter may be nearing a return, but if he does start at the weekend, he returns to a backline that has shipped 19 goals in nine games.
Sheff Utd have had no issues in finding the net.
Since the Gunners annihilated them, the Blades struck twice against Chelsea, once at Anfield, three times against Fulham and twice against Bournemouth.
The uptick in offensive form has a lot to do with Chilean import Ben Brereton Diaz. After a torrid six months at Villarreal, the frontman has scored four times in seven top flight appearances and looks to be striking up a partnership with Oli McBurnie.
- Brentford vs Sheffield United Prediction 2: Ben Brereton Diaz Anytime Goalscorer (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 5.50
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 5/10
Brentford vs Sheffield United Prediction 3: Punt
On the whole, yes, Sheff U have scored the fewest goals in the top flight (30), won the least points (16) and conceded the most goals, but they have drastically improved in recent weeks, rose-tinted glasses on or not.
The form book will say they only took two points from the games with Fulham and Brentford, but bet365, amongst other firms, would have paid out on the Blades win due to their two-up Early Payout offer.
This is what I’ll be hoping to exploit here.
If Wilder’s side can get a two goals cushion, as they have in half of their last four games, an away win will be paid out which is currently around 6.50 as I write.
If I may be a little greedier though, combining an away win with SUFC stopped Ivo Grbic to be shown a card boosts the odds with 365 to a healthy 31.00.
The thinking is that Grbic will pull out all the stops to protect the precious points and run the risk of a booking. This proved to be the case at Bournemouth.
Anyone considering this bet, I urge you to wait until Sky Bet have priced the player card markets as I am 99% sure this bet builder will be a bigger price with them.
- Brentford vs Sheffield United Prediction 3: Sheff Utd Win and Ivo Grbic Card(TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 38.00
- Bookmaker: Sky Bet
- Stake: 1/10

Brentford vs Sheffield United Team News and Possible Lineups: Pinnock returns
Frank is expected to welcome back defender Ethan Pinnock and he could slot straight back into the backline.
Ben Mee will be unavailable and Ivan Toney, who made a cameo from the bench at Villa Park will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s game.
James McAtee started on the bench against Chelsea but may feature from the off on Saturday although it looks unlikely he will dislodge the front two pairing of Brereton Diaz and McBurnie.
Wilder may rejig his formation, switching to a back four dropping Mason Holgate.
Brentford possible starting lineup:
Flekken; Zanka, Pinnock, Collins; Roeslev, Jensen, Janelt, Damsgaard, Reguilon; Mbeumo, Toney
Sheffield United possible starting lineup:
Grbic; Bogle, Ahmedodzic, Robinson, Trusty; McAtee, Hamer, Arblaster, Osborn; McBurnie, Brereton Diaz

Match OPTA Stats: Wilder on Top vs Frank
- Brentford have dropped 30 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season – only four teams have ever lost more in a single campaign; Chelsea in 1995-96 (33), Wimbledon in 1999-00 (33), Tottenham in 2007-08 (33) and Newcastle in 2004-05 (31).
- Sheffield United haven’t kept a clean sheet away from home in the Premier League since May 2021, in a 1- 0 win over Everton. They’ve conceded in each of their last 16 away games in the top-flight, at an average of 2.3 goals per outing (36 conceded in total).
- Brentford are the side who’ve made the most successful crosses from open play in the Premier League this season (111), while they also have the highest completion rate (26%). Indeed, Mads Roerslev has completed 41% of his open play crosses in the competition this term (22/54); the most of any player to attempt at least 50.
- Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has won all three of his previous league meetings with Brentford’s Thomas Frank (twice in the 2018-19 Championship and 1-0 in this season’s reverse fixture). During his time in English football, the only opposition managers Frank has lost his first four meetings with are Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter.
- Ivan Toney hasn’t scored in any of his last seven Premier League starts for Brentford, despite attempting 21 shots (2.0xG) and having 36 touches in the opposition box across those games. Indeed, this is his longest run of starts without finding the net in the competition.
