Ten players currently lead the way in the Champions League Most Assists leaderboard with five and four assists to their name.

Eight of ten assist leaders remain in the competition, with a selection of interesting odds attached to potential frontrunners in the assists metric come the final in May. Sam Ingram is on hand with his two favourite selections.

Salah To Carry Premier League Form Over To Europe

For the purpose of this article, let’s remove all talk of Charles De Ketelaere and David Zappacosta from this discussion following their failure to qualify for the Round of 16.  The Atalanta pair chalked up a competition-leading five assists. The Most Assists market on bet365 hasn’t included the double act in their betting heat, suggesting that they’ll be swiftly overtaken.

Achraf Hakimi leads the way in PSG Colours alongside Julian Brandt of Borussia Dortmund with five assists each. We shouldn’t be too surprised to see the Moroccan in the conversation. After all, he’s a PSG record holder with the defender with the most assists in the club’s history, overtaking Maxwell in December 2024.

Interestingly, Hakimi is not available on bet365’s Most Assists market, which looks to be a mistake on the bookmaker’s part. However, for me, PSG’s time in the tournament is limited, with Liverpool likely to gazump the Parisians in the Round of 16.

Longevity is Key

It feels obvious to say it, but for an outright market like this one, you want the likelihood of longevity and a good crack at reaching the final in May. Step forward Mohamed Salah The Egyptian has registered four assists in Liverpool’s eight Champions League League Phase matches up to this point. He’s the 6.00 second favourite in the Most Assists market. Considering his eyewatering 17 assists in 28 Premier League games this season, should we be expecting Salah to lock in the Most Assists gong in Europe, too?

Liverpool have to sidestep both PSG and then either Club Brugge or Aston Villa next. The route to the final is littered with extremely tough tests. But that’s the Champions League. And Salah is more than accomplished at this level. What might put people off taking Salah is that his current tally of four assists is his best-ever return in the Champions League, equalling his haul of four in 2017/18 as he made his way to the final in Kyiv versus Real Madrid.

At 6.00, it might be worth a roll of the dice.

Raphinha Might Edge It On Easier Side Of The Draw

Raphinha (4.00), Joshua Kimmich (9.00), and Jeremie Frimpong (9.00) all join Salah in the betting before Julian Brandt, the assists leader, makes an appearance at 15.00. Dortmund and Brandt’s next opponents will be Barcelona or Benfica, best explaining the chunky double-digit price on the German.

The best way to approach this market might be to pick out a horse from both sides of the draw. We’ve locked in Mohamed Salah, who might be rubbing shoulders with PSG and Real Madrid. Elsewhere, on the much easier half of the draw, we’ve got two of Bayern vs Leverkusen and Feyenoord vs Inter meeting in the quarter-final, as well as a due from Benfica vs Barcelona and Dortmund vs Lille.

I like Inter and Barcelona’s chances. Only one of those teams is free-flowing and willing to put teams to the sword and rack up high-quality chances, and they’re not Italian.

So, as predictable as it might be, Raphinha gets the nod. The bookmakers have him as a favourite, and I can see why. The 20.4xG in the League Phase was the second-highest after Bayern Munich of all 36 Champions League clubs. The Brazilian picked up four assists in his eight appearances, adding to his seven in La Liga in 2024/25. He’s not quite at Salah’s level domestically, but there will undoubtedly be chances to build on his European assist tally versus Benfica, if nothing else.
