The hosts are flying high this season, which may be less surprising considering they are under City Group’s umbrella. Corinthians are at the opposite end of the table, who will need to turn their form round if they are to avoid relegation come the end of the season.

Bahia vs Corinthians Prediction 1: Hosts to hoover up

Bahia have been brilliant as we reach the midway point of the season. Currently three points off top, the City Group owned club are very much in the title race alongside Botafogo, Palmeiras and Flamengo.

The club was bold in the last transfer window, the addition of Santos’ Jean Lucas and Flamengo’s Everton Ribeiro in the heart of the midfield has elevated their game. On top of that particular pair, striker Everaldo was brought back to Brazil last season, and he’s already scored six Brasileirao goals.

With a mix of younger players and experience, Bahia are a well balanced side, who have been one of the more complete teams to watch away from the usual contenders at the top.

But while Bahia continue to battle at the top, Corinthians are falling from grace. Departures, drunk antics and with a lack of belief within the current squad, they are battling for survival; and aren’t doing a good job.

On paper, this looks like a routine win for the hosts, but due to their short price, we’re backing two or more match goals in the process to bump it up to the evens mark.

Bahia vs Corinthians Prediction 2: Corinthians set to struggle

It’s been a disastrous campaign so far for Corinthians and it doesn’t look like changing any time soon. With no money to their name, and continuously selling star assets, this could be the season everything catches up with them.

On the road, they’ve been terrible. Picking up just two points from a possible 24, Corinthians have failed to find the back of the net in five of those matches.

Striker Yuri Alberto hasn’t scored in his last five games, while exciting young winger, Wesley, looks at an all-time low confidence wise.

Bahia may have lost last time out at home to Cuiaba, but they’ve only conceded four in their last five, keeping two clean sheets in the process.

At home, they’ve collected 21 points from eight matches, the second best in the league, and have conceded just five in those games. 

After losing their last match, I’m expecting a reaction and they won’t fall short to this poor Corinthians side.

Bahia vs Corinthians Prediction 3: Goals a great price

Although the visitors aren’t likely to enjoy their evening, there’s every chance the hosts will. Having scored 27 goals in 17 matches, only Flamengo have outscored them to date (28).

At home, only Cruzeiro have outscored them, although they have impressively won all seven matches to date.

Corinthians, on the other hand, have conceded a whopping 16 goals on their travels – which is surprisingly the same amount as Bahia. Poor on the road, but excellent at home, we can worry about that statistic in another preview.

With 11 different goalscorers, Bahia aren’t reliant on Everaldo to fire them to victory. With Rogerio Ceni keen to use width with his five-man midfield, this also creates room centrally for players like Everton Ribeiro to dictate the play and pass the ball forwards.

With Bahia set to dominate possession, it’s important to note Corinthians recently sold Carlos Miguel to Nottingham Forest. His replacement, Matheus Donelli, has been a huge disappointment.

Bahia should win, and they should also score, too. Back the hosts to enjoy themselves this weekend.
