With the first round of the Copa Libertadores group stage done and dusted, we quickly move on to the second week of action and our South American expert Nathan Joyes is back to provide his Atletico Mineiro vs Rosario prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.
The Brazilians were brilliant in Venezuela as they hammered Caracas 4-1, while Rosario started well with a narrow 1-0 victory over Penarol. These two sides look likely to battle for top spot in Group G.

Atletico Mineiro vs Rosario Prediction 1: Hosts new head coach puts them in control
Brazil, Copa Libertadores, Wednesday, April 10th, 23:00 (UK)
Something special is brewing at Atletico Mineiro. The decision to recently appoint Diego Milito as their new head coach, who performed wonders with Argentinos Jr last year, has given them a real chance of success in this tournament.
Their dominant display in Venezuela last week really caught the eye. Although Caracas won’t be pulling up many trees in this competition, there’s no such thing as an easy away day in the Libertadores – just ask Flamengo and Fluminense, who drew in the opening round.
Yet despite rotating slightly, Mineiro had a style of play that was easy on the eye but also ruthless in front of goal.
Once again, Paulinho was at the heart of the action, and no doubt he’ll be close to the Golden Boot once again in 2024. Not many will keep him, or Hulk, quiet for 90 minutes.
Rosario secured a solid 1-0 win at home vs Penarol, but heading to the MRV Arena will be no easy task, and Galo fans will be expecting another victory – and my first tracked bet of the Libertadores.
- San Lorenzo vs Palmeiras Prediction 1: Atlético Mineiro to Win (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.75
- Bookmaker: Unibet
- Stake: 8/10
Atletico Mineiro vs Rosario Prediction 2: Brasileirao top goalscorer on the hunt for more
Paulinho’s brace showed how deadly he is in the opponent’s box. His quick, intelligent movement makes him a nightmare to defend against.
Last year, he won the Brasileirão Golden Boot with 20 goals to his name – none of which were scored from the penalty spot – as well as seven in 11 Libertadores matches.
Rosario’s defence wasn’t tested vs Penarol, but they’ll certainly have their work cut out on Wednesday evening. Handling Hulk, who continues to age like a fine wine, is enough to cope with, but trying to keep tabs on one of the best in the box in South America is another challenge.
Expect Paulinho to have fun in this competition once more and register another goal to his name.
- Atletico Mineiro vs Rosario Prediction 2: Paulinho to Score Anytime
- Best Odds: 2.40

- Stake: 6/10
Atletico Mineiro vs Rosario Prediction 3: Professional performance incoming
Although Atletico Mineiro blew away Caracas 4-1, Rosario should be able to put up more of a fight defensively than the Venezuelans.
The Copa Argentina champions kept Penarol quiet throughout the 90 minutes in their comfortable victory last round. However, domestically, they had lost their previous two matches to Barracas Central and Argentinos Jr – both arguably weaker than their Brazilian opponents.
This is an opportunity for Milito’s Mineiro to showcase they are a serious threat in this competition in front of their own fans for the first time.
However, with the Brasileirão beginning on the weekend, there is no doubt the Argentine will look to pull off a few key players if the match gets wrapped up early rather than continue to build on their goal tally.
After scoring four in Venezuela, there’s no need to build up their goal difference, and a professional performance should deliver a sensible scoreline.
- Atletico Mineiro vs Rosario Prediction 3: Atlético Mineiro to Win and Under 4.5 Goals
- Best Odds: 2.00
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 6/10
Atletico Mineiro vs Rosario Prediction 4: Ante-Post bonus
I’m not quite sure why I didn’t add Mineiro to my antepost outright piece, but the fact they’ve brought in Diego Milito – arguably one of Argentina’s best domestic managers – has given me no choice.
Their confident display vs Caracas was always to be expected, but the manner in which Mineiro knocked the ball around – without key players – showed a convincing style of play capable of going far in this competition.
Paulinho’s brace showed exactly why he remains one of – if not – the best strikers in Brazil and with him, Hulk and the recent addition of Gustavo Scarpa forming a front three, I’d be pulling my hair out if I didn’t back them.
It’s very early days, but Mineiro ticks plenty of boxes and their price looks rather inviting.
- Atletico Mineiro vs Rosario Prediction 3: Atletico Mineiro to win the Copa Libertadores
- Best Odds: 7.00
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 6/10

Atletico Mineiro vs Rosario Team News and Possible Lineups: Santana or Scarpa is the question
Atletico Mineiro not only picked up all three points vs Caracas but came out of the match without any fresh injuries to worry about. Alisson Santana (18) started and impressed once again, and Milito now has a headache as to whether or not to keep him in the starting XI.
Mineiro spent big money to bring Gustavo Scarpa back to Brazil and the Brazilian player of the year in 2022 will be hopeful of debuting for his club in the Libertadores on Wednesday.
Keep an eye on Rosario’s Tomas O’Connor. The 20-year-old winger has attracted plenty of attention and his performance could be key if Rosario are to collect points.
Atletico Mineiro possible starting lineup:
Everson; Arana, Jemerson, Bruno Fuchs, Renzo Saravia, Santana, Battaglia, Scarpa, Gomes, Paulinho, Hulk
Rosario possible starting lineup:
Broun; Sandez, Quintana, Mallo Blanco, Martinez, Ortiz, Gomez, O’Connor, Malcorra, Jaminton Campaz, Cervera
Match Stats: Comfortable win for the hosts
- Atletico Mineiro are unbeaten in their last four home matches, and have lost just one in their last ten at the MRV Arena.
- Rosario has lost four of their last five away games in all competitions, only scoring in one of those.
- Paulinho scored seven goals in 11 Libertadores matches last year, and has kickstarted this campaign with a brace vs Caracas.
