Atalanta vs Roma Prediction 1: Bergmaschi are favorite to qualify for Champions League
Italy, Serie A, Sunday, May 12th, 19:45 (UK)
Both sides must brush off the Europa League’s fatigue to focus on this game that will almost certainly decide who’ll be Italy’s fifth team in the Champions League next season.
The hosts are in great form, having lost only one (2-1 against Cagliari) of their past seven games. Next Wednesday, they’ll play the Coppa Italia final against Juventus in Rome, but, with still a game in hand (at home against Fiorentina, they look favourite to finish above Roma.
Home form has been a decisive factor for Atalanta so far. In fact, Giampiero Gapserini’s men have obtained 35 points in 16 matches played at the ‘Gewiss Stadium’.
Only in 1947/1948 they had done better (36 points) at the same stage of the season.
Atalanta have only been defeated three times in front of their fans (by Inter, Napoli and Liverpool) and failed to score only on two occasions in all competitions.
Their defensive numbers have also improved this season. In fact, they’ve conceded 38 goals, which represents their second-best record over the past 11 campaigns after 35 games.
Roma, on the other hand, looked tired last Sunday against Juventus and could have lost the game if it hadn’t been for a couple of Svilar’s brilliant saves.

Atalanta vs Roma Prediction 2: a pair to ‘Look’ out for
Probably having had to recover many points in the league since January is taking its toll on De Rossi’s men, who have only won one of the last five in all competitions.
Nonetheless Roma’s recent record in the league remains excellent, in fact since March only Inter (20) and AC Milan (18) have collected more points than the Giallorossi (16, same as Bologna and Lazio).
This term, the visitors haven’t won any of the big matches they’ve played away from home, as their only two successes against Italy’s top sides (Napoli and Lazio) have come at the Stadio Olimpico.
Given the importance of the game it’s unlikely both managers will make many rotations and therefore the key players will be required to put in an extra shift.
Ademola Lookman has scored three times and provided two assists since April and is, alongside Gianluca Scamacca, the one who has had more shots on target (22) for the hosts.
In the opposite camp, captain Lorenzo Pellegrini has already scored nine times this season.
He has had three shots in each of Roma’s last three games, including one on target during the last away game played in Naples.
- Atalanta vs Roma Prediction 2: Ademola Lookman and Lorenzo Pellegrini Over 0.5 Shots On Target (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.62
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 6/10
Atalanta vs Roma Prediction 3: plenty of goals on both sides
Although the draw might suit the host better because of their superior goal difference, the game might not be a cagey one, given the attacking options both clubs can rely on.
Scamacca is in the form of his career, having scored in four consecutive Serie A games for the first time. Impressive numbers for the Italian international but his teammate Teun Koopmeiers has done even better this season.
In fact, the Dutch midfielder has netted 12 times in Serie A, becoming the first player from the Netherlands since Ruud Gullit in 1994/1995 to reach such a high tally.
Koopmeiners has been extremely versatile and in fact ten of his goals have come from open play, a record Koopmeiners currently shares with AC Milan’s Christian Pulisic.
Atalanta has Italy’s third-best attack (63 goals) and has scored more than once in ten domestic games.
Roma netted only time less than their opponents, are unbeaten in seven away games and have only failed to score once since January.
At the weekend Romelu Lukaku netted his 20th goal of the season in all competitions and his second only to Lautaro Martinez (26 goals).

- Best Odds: 4.50

- Stake: 2/10

Atalanta vs Roma Team News and Possible Lineups: in-form Scamacca might start on the bench
There will be no Kolasinac in defense for the hosts, his place will be taken by Djimsiti who’ll play alongside Hien and Scalvini.
Zappacosta might be rested making space for Hateboer. Given the importance of the match, Gasperini should play with his best men upfront, deploying both Koopmeiners and Lookman behind either De Ketelaere or Scamacca.
Mancini will return at the center of Roma’s defense, alongside N’dicka. Celik will play a right-back while Angelino is favorite over Spinazzola for a place on the opposite flank.
Dybala’s conditions are being monitored. The Argentine might start on the bench with Baldanzi taking up his place next to Lukaku.

Carnesecchi; Scalvini, Hien, Djimsiti; Hateboer, Ederson, Pasalic, Ruggeri; Miranchuk, Scamacca, Lookman.
