Welcome to our Atalanta vs Marseille prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures Europa League preview. The first leg in France was a pulsating end to end affair which ended 1-1. Both teams will feel like they are still in the hunt to make the final in Dublin. However, now with home advantage, Atalanta could really throw down the gauntlet, and are the favourites to progress. French football expert Steve Wyss delivers his best bets for the game.

Atalanta vs Marseille Prediction 1: Italians to show their class and beat Marseille

UEFA Europa League, Thursday 9th May, 20:00 (UK)

Atalanta took an early lead in France last week and it looked like they would perhaps kick on from that. But they conceded a fairly quick equaliser, which halted a lot of momentum. Atalanta had their chances to win the game but Marseille caused them more problems than expected, but that can happen in any away match. Ultimately, Atalanta must be quite satisfied with their performance and also the result from Le Stade Velodrome.

The Italians in many respects now have Marseille where they want them and know that any win inside 90 mins will get them over the line to the Dublin showpiece final. This is a very good opportunity to face an OM side who have only won one out of six away matches in Europe this season. They haven’t travelled well and were outplayed by both Benfica and Villarreal in previous rounds. This could be an even tougher challenge vs an Atalanta team that has already knocked out Sporting Lisbon and Liverpool. Taking the home side on a -0.75 Asian handicap looks like a strong betting option. They are simply the team with more class and ability. With home advantage, I am expecting Atalanta to turn the screw and show their superiority.

  • Atalanta vs Marseille Prediction 1: Atalanta -0.75 Asian Handicap (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.99
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 7/10

Atalanta vs Marseille Prediction 2: Chances can finally be converted into goals in the second leg

It was absolutely ridiculous how the first leg ended with under 2.5 goals. The scoreline was 1-1 after just 20 minutes but somehow remained that way. There were enough dangerous transitions and chances for at least another goal to be scored. Based on the pattern of play in that first leg then we can surely expect this match to now explode. At the time of writing, Atalanta games in Serie A average exactly three goals per game and 21 of their 33 matches have contained over 2.5 goals. This isn’t a team that is known for keeping clean sheets, failing to shut out their opponents in 12 of the last 14 in all competitions.

Marseille are not the sort of side that defend very well, either. Since Jean-Louis Gasset took over at the club, they’ve kept just 3 out of 15 clean sheets and relied upon their attack to get them results. The only danger scoreline is probably 1-1, but I expect Atalanta to have too much attacking firepower that they score multiple goals by themselves. If Marseille are to qualify for the final, they will need to lean on their attack to get them something. Over 2.5 goals should land on this occasion unless we see a glutton of missed chances again.

  • Atalanta vs Marseille Prediction 2: Over 2.5 Goals (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.86
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 10/10

Atalanta vs Marseille Prediction 3: Scamacca to score against Marseille again

We cashed with Gianluca Scamacca to score anytime in the first leg at odds of 3.25. That was a very generous price, and I think he is worth backing again to hit the back of the net. Scamacca tops the Atalanta scoring charts with 16 goals this season but has been in especially good form since the turn of the year. The Italian has netted at least one goal in 8 of his last 11 starts and found form at just the right time. He won’t fear anything about this Marseille defence, which he’s already scored against and regularly gives up big chances.

I mentioned last week how Scamacca has been especially reliable in the big games. He scored in both legs against Sporting Lisbon in the Last 16, in addition to netting twice vs Liverpool at Anfield. Just to top things off then, he managed a goal in the Coppa Italia semi-final, facing Fiorentina. This is a player who can deliver under pressure on the big stage and is clearly in top form. At odds of 2.62, he can’t be ignored to score anytime in the home leg in front of his own fans. I expect the former West Ham United man to cause plenty of problems for Marseille again.

  • Atalanta vs Marseille Prediction 3: Gianluca Scamacca to Score Anytime  (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.62
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10

Atalanta vs Marseille Team News and Possible Lineups: Kolasinac blow for Atalanta

Former Marseille player Saed Kolasinac came off injured in the first leg and is a major doubt here. Defender Isak Hien returns from suspension so should come back into the side. At the time of writing we don’t know the outcome of Atalanta’s match vs Salernitana on Monday so any fresh injuries would have to be considered.

Marseille left back Quentin Merlin wasn’t fit enough to start the first leg but should be in the team right from the off. Iliman Ndiaye is a candidate to come into the side at the expense of Luis Henrique. Marseille have had a full week of rest to prepare for this game.

Atalanta possible starting lineup:
Musso, Scalvini, Hien, Djimsiti, Ruggeri, Ederson, de Roon, Zappacosta, Koopmeiners, Scamacca, Miranchuk

Marseille possible starting lineup:
Lopez, Merlin, Gigot, Balerdi, Clauss, Harit, Veretout, Kondogbia, Sarr, Aubameyang, Ndiaye
