Arsenal vs Tottenham OPTA Stats: All Eyes on North London
- Tottenham have won just one of their last 30 Premier League away games against Arsenal (D11 L18) and are winless in 12 (D4 L8) since a 3-2 victory in November 2010.
- Arsenal are looking to win three consecutive league games against Tottenham for the first time since a run of five between 1987 and 1989.
- Bukayo Saka has been involved in 18 goals in his last 18 Premier League home appearances for Arsenal (12 goals, 6 assists), either scoring (2) or assisting (1) in all three of his league games at the Emirates Stadium this season.
- Tottenham have scored at least twice in all five of their Premier League games under Ange Postecoglu, making him the fifth manager to see his side score 2+ goals in each of his first five in the competition (Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola, Craig Shakespeare and Maurizio Sarri). Of the previous four, only Sarri’s Chelsea failed to score at least twice in the sixth game.
- Coming into this weekend’s games, only Liverpool (9) have won more points from losing positions than Spurs (7) in the Premier League this season. Spurs have won their last two having conceded first but have never come from behind to win three consecutive Premier League games before.
Arsenal vs Tottenham Bet Builder Tips: Happy Maddison
Spurs Double Chance
Arsenal made a triumphant return to the Champions League on Wednesday, dispatching PSV Eindhoven with relative ease.
This was their first continental game under the lights since the 2016/17 season back when Arsene Wenger ruled the roost. So, it seemed fitting that Bakayo Saka scored the opener- a homegrown player- after he pounced on a parry to tuck home Martin Ødegaard’s rebounded shot inside 10 minutes.
After that, the Gunners did not need to get out of second gear and crushed to victory, crucially without expending too much energy and avoiding any major injuries.
It also means the Gunners maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign, a 2-2 draw against Fulham the only blemish on an otherwise perfect start.
Mikel Arteta’s side come into this off the back of three straight victories, having not conceded a goal in 213 minutes of competitive action.
Though it is worth noting, I think it counts for little here.
Tottenham come into this one well-rested and brimming with confidence.
Spurs struck twice, deep into stoppage time, to come from behind and beat Sheffield United last Saturday.
Ange Postecoglou has also had the week to prepare his side for his first NLD. European duties have not encumbered his preparation, so I think they get a result.
James Maddison Anytime Goalscorer
That Champions League performance will give Arteta a welcome headache.
The Spanish supremo freshened up the frontline, the injured Gabriel Martinelli made way for Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Jesus replaced Eddie Nketiah, who looked out of sorts at Goodison Park.
Trossard scored the second and assisted the third for Jesus as the pair staked their claim to start on Sunday.
Trossard is clinical but drifts in and out of fixtures, which is why he weakens the Gunners lineup.
With no fresh injury concerns for Spurs, they could field the same XI as last Saturday.
This would see James Maddison continue in behind Son Heung-Min, and the England international is flourishing in North London.
Maddison has had a hand in four games this season, boasting a goals-per-90 average of 0.42.
Even at Leicester, over the last four seasons, his goals per 90 average has not dropped below 0.34 and based on that, his price to score looks too large.
James Maddison Card
This will be Maddison’s first taste of a North London Derby, and he is exactly the type of player to relish the occasion.
While his offensive output is outrageous, so is his card record.
At the Foxes last campaign, he racked up ten bookings in the top flight and has not seemed to shake his ill-discipline in North London.
Maddison picked up his second card of the season (5 appearances) against the Blades. I watched the game first-hand; his petulance knows no bounds.
He is genuinely of the Bruno Fernades ilk for hassling referees, something that isn’t gonna fly this campaign.
Robert Jones has the whistle for this one. He has dished out 25 yellows and one red card in five Premier League appearances this season, impressive considering he has overseen the most games in the Prem.
