Arsenal vs Manchester United OPTA Stats: Saka on the cusp of Arsenal folklore

  • Bukayo Saka has scored in each of his last three Premier League appearances against Manchester United – no player in Arsenal’s history has ever scored in four consecutive league games against the Red Devils.
  • Against Fulham last time out, Fábio Vieira became only the 11 th substitute in Premier League history to both assist a goal and win a penalty in a game, and the first Arsenal player to do so. All three of Vieira’s Premier League assists have been from the bench, the most by a substitute since the start of last season.
  • Manchester United have won six of their last seven Premier League games, losing the other in London against Spurs last month. The Red Devils have picked up just six points from their last 10 league visits to the capital (W1 D3 L6) and are winless in their last five (D2 L3).
  • Manchester United have lost five of their last nine Premier League meetings with Arsenal (W2 D2), one more than they had in their previous 23 against the Gunners (W12 D7 L4).

Arsenal vs Manchester United Bet Builder Tips: Arsenal to edge it?

Antony Over 0.5 Shots

Antony has disappointed many with his lack of attacking output since his £82 million transfer from Ajax. The 23-year-old only registered six goal contributions in the league last season. However, what the Brazilian will bring is industry, with the enigmatic winger being the first to lead the press.

He has also shown a willingness to shoot on sight, sometimes to the frustration of the Old Trafford faithful. So far, Antony has hit ten shots in three starts, hitting at least two in all three, too. In fact, he has hit 2+ shots in his last seven league starts (excluding Chelsea, as he was subbed off after 21 minutes). He has averaged 3.71 shots in this time frame.

Antony scored and hit three shots in the 3-1 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford, hitting one in the 3-2 loss at the Emirates.

Over 10.5 Free Kicks for Manchester United

The departure of David De Gea has allowed Erik ten Haag to play a higher line, seeing Manchester United’s opponents average two offsides per game this season. With attacking talents like Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Martial, and industrious players like Casemiro, the Red Devils tend to win more free kicks, having 13, 10, and 13 so far this season.

The addition of Declan Rice to the Arsenal midfield has seen the Gunners become more tenacious and commit more fouls. The opening-day victory over Nottingham Forest saw Arteta’s side concede 14 free kicks despite dominating the ball with 78% of the possession. The next game also witnessed them concede 12 free kicks at Selhurst Park. The 2-2 draw against Fulham only had them give away ten free kicks, just one short of the 10.5 threshold.

However, with referees being stricter on fouls and an intense hatred between the sides, I expect Manchester United to rack up the free kicks.

Arsenal Win

Arsenal looked set to win the Premier League title last season before a late-season collapse saw Manchester City emerge victorious. The Gunners home form was impressive, with Mikel Arteta’s side picking up 45 points from 19 home games, including a 3-2 victory over Manchester United in January. The Red Devils have yet to beat Arsenal in their last five visits to the Emirates.

Manchester United looked poor on their travels, picking up 27 points from 19. In their games against the top nine away, Ten Haag’s side only picked up one point—a 2-2 draw at Tottenham. Their away woes were evident in the distressing 4-0 loss to Brentford and the 7-0 humiliation by Liverpool. The poor away form continued this season, getting beaten 2-0 by Tottenham. Arsenal played well in big home games, beating Aston Villa, Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea in front of their home crowd.

The odds of 1.80 for Arsenal to win are too good to turn down against poor-travelling Manchester United.
