We’ve delved into the prop markets to offer up the best player prop bets for Sunday’s World Cup Final. Messi vs Mbappe is the billing and our World Cup final player props feature both men. All 22 players on the pitch will be eager to impress which opens up plenty of doors when it comes to the prop markets.

Argentina vs France Player Props Preview

World Cup Final, Sunday, December 18th, 15:00 (UK)

France v Argentina is a final for the ages, two great, distinguished football nations going toe-to-toe on the world stage.

It pits Lionel Messi, the master, against the young pretender, Kylian Mbappe as they face off for the greatest prize in football.

These clashes can propose quite a challenge from a punting perspective, so the best approach can sometimes be delving into the prop markets as I have done here.

Shots, tackles and foul angles are proposed.

Argentina vs France Lionel Messi Props Preview

Lionel Messi has dominated the narrative in Qatar, with it being his last dance and all.

Bagging five times and registering three assists, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is the favourite to win the Golden Ball, however, his international career has not been this cushty.

While he is revered across Europe, his compatriots in South America have not always held him so dearly.

Back-to-back-to-back final defeats go a little way to explaining this. La Albiceleste lost to Germany in the 2014 World Cup Final before defeats to Chile in the Copa America final two tournaments on the spin.

Argentina have since won a Copa America but Messi will not be held as dearly as Maradona in Argentina until he wins a World Cup. With this looking like his last opportunity, he appears to be feeling the pressure.

Argentina vs France Lionel Messi Best Bet

Not renowned for his tenacity, Messi has, by his standards, begun to rack up fouls.

He has committed eight in six games, racking up three on two occasions meeting this line of two in a third of his appearances.

Given the magnitude of this clash, and the importance of the win for him personally, I wouldn’t put it past him to commit a couple.

  • Selection: Messi 2+ fouls (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 4.50 (Paddy Power)
  • Stakes: 8/10

Argentina vs France Antione Griezmann Props Preview

If it was not for the aforementioned Messi, Antoine Griezmann would probably be amongst the frontrunners to secure his second World Cup player of the tournament accolade.

To much disbelief, his supremo, Didier Deschamps, said that he has all the attributes to play as a holding midfielder.

Watching his performances this tournament just in front of a double pivot you can certainly see why Griezmann has been one of Les Bleus’ standout performers.

Former France international Mikael Silvestre agrees and went as far as to say that the Atletico man is in contention for the Golden Ball.

“He could win that prize if he scores the winner in the final,” Silvestre told bettingexpert.com in an exclusive interview.

“Of course, he also has to maintain his good form in the final. But he has modified his game and has done it excellent in the midfield both when attacking but also in the defensive aspect of the game.”

Argentina vs France Antione Griezmann Best Bet

Griezmann has mainly been a provider, topping their charts for assists (3) and key passes per game (3.5) but his all round numbers are staggering.

Griezmann has averaged 43.5 passes, one shot and 1.8 tackles per game, highlighting his versatility and all round ability.

It is the latter, tackles, that interests me in the final.

He has hit this line of two in four of his five World Cup starts, only failing to do so against Poland where the opposition failed to lay a glove on the French.

Against England, Griezmann was pivotal in disrupting the Three Lions midfield, completing two tackles and committing three fouls and I expect him to adopt a similar role Sunday.

  • Selection: Antione Griezmann +2 Tackles
  • Best Odds: 1.73 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 8/10

Argentina vs France Jules Kounde Props Preview

On the right-hand side of Deschamps’ back four, Jules Kounde will be tasked with containing that mercurial Argentinian frontline.

It contains Messi, Julien Alverez and Angel Di Maria. Between them, the trio have scored nine, averaged 7.2 shots, 4.8 dribbles and drawn 4.2 fouls per game.

For all their attacking threat, they have been guilty of leaving their team a little light defensively.

This is why, although Kounde will have to prioritise his defensive duty, I think he can capitalise offensively.

Argentina vs France Jules Kounde Best Bet

Kounde has averaged a shot per start for Les Bleus this winter, hitting two against Denmark and one against Morocco and Poland.

Yet to score, he has threatened, generating an xG of 0.22, which is why I think his prize to register a single shot is too large, 2.25 with Betfair.

The same angle is 1.83 with bet365, Sky Bet have it at 1.73.

Operating at right back means he gets ample opportunity to try his luck with half of his shots coming from outside the box. He is still a threat from set pieces though and that is where the other half have come from.

  • Selection: Jules Kounde +1 Shot
  • Best Odds: 2.25 (Betfair)
  • Stakes: 5/10

Argentina vs France Kylian Mbappe Props Preview

The matchup between Mbappe and Messi is worthy of the biggest stage in world football, and with them potentially operating on the same flank they might even come into direct contact with each other.

Like his counterpart, Mbappe will be desperate to win (obviously) but unlike his counterpart, he already has a World Cup to his name.

The frontman’s game is built on unbelievable pace, though he has always had an edge to his game.

Argentina vs France Kylian Mbappe Best Bet

Mbappe to commit two fouls is a tasty 4.20 with Paddy Power, the same bet is only 2.80 elsewhere.

In a literal sense, this large price makes sense, considering this bet has only landed in one of Mbappe’s 13 WC appearances.

I think you have to look at this game in isolation though, considering the magnitude of the clash and these nations’ similar tactics.

It is worth noting as well, that the one WC match he did meet this line of two was his most recent one, against Morocco (3).

  • Selection: Kylian Mbappe +2 Fouls (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 4.20 (Paddy Power)
  • Stakes: 10/10

All odds correct as at 14:00 on 16th December 2022. Odds may now differ.
